For Josiah~HIDS

i found these on ebay....figured josiah and anyone else looking for HID headlights and not just a kit

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...92059486QQrdZ1

pre-assembled harley lights with the HID kits already in them.
not a bad price either.

Why, though?

Again, you still don't have the proper optics. HD lights are the SAME as stock headlights with a black background versus a silver one. Why would this set up be better than a stock setup where the light cutoff is nearly non-existant and scatters light everywhere?

Nice try... it's still not 'good' HID.

patshea098 02-17-2007 10:30 PM

o well....i dont know anything about HID's and didnt evne think about that.
good point RP
just knew josiah was looking for some. maybe the came guys sell with a regular headlight didnt see it though.

those aren't OEM harleys, they are knock-offs. OEM harleys have a black cap over the headlight bulb reflector.

rockpick, could u explain that too me a little better i am not sure what u mean. are u saying that that set on ebay is not a true h.i.d or that hid in your opinion is not worth the money? just for clarification thanks.

He isn't saying that the HIDs are the problem but instead the housing. The stock style reflector housings are not meant to be used with HIDs because the scattter the light and blind oncoming traffic. Now with the right housing (projectors) the cutoff is set so that the light won't blind traffic.

SteveVFX4 02-17-2007 10:50 PM

that set is not true hid. It's still a regular halogen headlight assembly and some is sticking hid bulbs in it.

Josiah 02-18-2007 10:43 PM

Thanks pat, unfortunately I already purchased the HID's and they're installed in my stock housings. If they are like the harley's they have a great cutoff even with HID's, much better than my stock heads. I just don't like the blacked out look.

So these would no work as well (i.e., proper light cutoff)

They will put off great light, but you will get yourself pulled over every now and then, and the motorists might call you number one on occasion.

No those won't give the proper light cut off cause they are also just a drop in bulb that goes into a stock housing.

Just curious how the harley heads could have a different cutoff than the regular reflector (chrome) heads?

Stock lamps W/HID's:

Hella HD style lamps W/same HID's:

In my case the Hella lamps greatly reduced glare VS the stock lamps. I have never had a problem with blinding traffic with the black lamps.

Rockpick 02-18-2007 11:33 PM

Tuff... that's not a bad cutoff for a 'stock' assembly. Those are Hella? Still have high beams?

Tuff4rd 02-18-2007 11:48 PM

Thanks, I had the OEM lamps on for a week after selling my Harley lamps and was getting hi-beams flashed at me all the time.I was forced to go back to a black lamp because of that. The stock lamps and HID's are a joke IMO they are nothing but glare.

I think the Hellas are the best due to the housing being a ultra flat black, it keeps the beam more concentrated and round, the stock lamps just bleed the light pattern and produce blinding glare.

I do not have high beams, but dont really need them with these lights.
