How to get truck in neutral with dead battery?
I have a console shift and need to get my truck in neutral, and my battery is dead. I saw the plug to pull under the steering column but even pushing the silver tab won't allow it to go into neutral.:help:

Can't you just turn the key on the on position...put your foot on the brake and shift it?
|
No the battery is dead it's not engaging the electric release, it's a column shift, I put console on accident.
|
check the manual if you haven't yet
|
I did, it only give directions for a console shift, you hit a white button when the cover is removed.

FYI, I know someone will need this! SET PARKING BRAKE!! Get under truck locate shift linkage, pry shifter off and click it back twice, wa la neutral!

If you cannot move the gearshift lever out of P (Park) with ignition in the ON position and the brake pedal depressed, it is possible that a fuse has blown or the vehicle’s brakelamps are not operating properly. Refer to Fuses and relays in the Roadside Emergencies chapter. If the fuse is not blown, perform the following procedure: 1. Apply the parking brake, turn the ignition to OFF/LOCK, then remove the key. 2. Locate the round access plug on the underside of the steering column cover. Driving 198 3. Remove the access plug using a flat head screwdriver, then push the override button using a flat head screwdriver, apply the brake pedal and shift the transmission into N (Neutral). 4. Reinstall the access plug cover, start the vehicle and release the parking brake. http://www.analogstereo.com/pdf/om/f...anual_2005.pdf |
If it has a floor/console shifter you pull the trim cover off of it and depress the actuator, you don't go into the steering column.

The manual will do you no good if you were in my shoes but hopefully you won't have to find out the hard way like I did. |

If it's a column shift there is a plug on the bottom of the steering column you remove then stick a small screwdriver up in the hole. And if it's a floor shift you remove the top trim cover on the console and reach in and depress it. Do you really think Ford wants people crawling under their trucks to get it into neutral? |
