So. . . since the general consensus is that this is going to cost me big bucks and I am 2 years into a 3 year lease, should I try some of that Prestone Stop-Leak stuff and see if that helps? Or am I just wasting my time?

Thanks for the advice so far.

stick with your motorcraft premium coolant that the truck came with. If you were in my area i would do it for much less then 1000 bucks for labor. But that would be a long drive for you or me

anyways if you take your time even at a friends house in a garage, there is no reason you couldnt get it done in a day.

I mean those pellets that you can throw in with the coolant to stop leaks. Does that stuff work?

I don't have access to a garage, none of my friends have one either. Or if they do they have projects on the go that can't be moved.

they make the hoses weaker b.c they add a layer of gunk in there. So not only are you more restrictive, but you gum up the water pump/ radiator/ heatercore.

bottom line, there is no such thing as a mechanic in a can.....

stick to your normal fluid for anything, and dont use any additives.

That sucks that heater core is a pain and as far as the stop leak that is a hit or miss deal and yes it could be twice as harmfull than doing you any good. I work at a shop and we could probably do it for around 800.00 give or take seems like there isn't an aftermarket heater core available.

Got to agree with Patman,i would suck it up and take care of it.No additives! It will more than likely get worse and start soaking into your carpet.
