Are you serious?

So I live in jersey, and everywhere you go, you have to pay to get on the stupid parkway. So yesterday morning I click the button to roll the window down. Then I hear a thud. Thinking I ran over something, i paid my 25 cents and drove off. Much to my surprise I can't roll my ********** window up. Even the little light on the switch is off, but only the up light. Everyone at work said it just feel off the track, thats its not that serious or expensive. I call Ford today and the guy said its gonna be at least $250 to fix, could be more though. Is this guy over pricing, or is that the normal?

There goes my hopes for my xcal in the near future. Im bummed. Gonna hit the gym and try to work out some aggresion.

Is there a write up anywhere on how to take the panel off, and how to replace the regulator?

I'm guessing auto, since manual windows don't have motors.

Guess there are stupid questions huh? j/k man

I don't have a write-up handy where I am right now, but the regulator swap is not difficult. I swapped out my passenger manual windows with the OEM power window regulator, and it was fairly straight forward. I have one of those service manuals on DVD things, and the steps in there pretty much walked me through it.

I'll probably forget some steps here, but from memory:
- remove door panel
- remove the vapor barrier plastic
- tape the glass to the door frame in the up position
- undo 4 or 5 bolts for the regulator attaching to the door frame
- loosen two bolts on the regulator that hold/squeeze the glass
- pull the regulator out of the hole in the door frame
- reverse to install new

If anyone else has a write-up link or better steps, please post. Again, these are just from memory.... If you get a new regulator, it's pretty obvious when you look at it how it works, and where the bolts go.... and what you'll have to undo to get the old one out.

This repair is actually very straight forward and requires no special tools.

Start by ordering the part. I bought mine for fordparts.com and cost me 88.xx shipped to my door.

Until it arrives you might want to prop up the window. I did this with a cut broom stick.

Removing the panel.
1. Inside the door handle bucket you will see a small panel. Use a flat tip screwdriver to remove that panel and reveal the bolts. remove these bolts.

2. Use flat tip screwdriver to gently pry off the screen that covers the stereo speaker. It is just held on with some barbed plastic clips. once the screen is off then remove the 4 screws that hold the speaker in place, then disconnect the speaker wire and remove speaker.

3. Use flat tip screwdriver to pry the window/power mirror/ door lock switch unit off. Look on the armrest and you will see that there is a seam that runs along the side. Insert flat tip screwdrive into that seam up where the controls are located and pry it open. Then disconnect all of the connectors. Now you will see a head of a bolt. remove that bolt.

4. At the very bottom of the panel you will find 2 screws. remove these.

You have now removed all fasteners that hold the panel in place. Push in and up at the same time because the panel has some molded plastic hooks. The panel should be free.

Gently peal away the clear plastic vapor barrier and now you can manually raise your window into place. I proped my up for about 2 weeks until my part arrived.

Hope this helps,

Ox

If you don't have anything else to drive while you're waiting for the regulator to come in, I used duct tape to hold the window up for about 2 weeks.

I had something similar also, one of the pulleys in rear window literally broke. i came out from store and seen window was down, thought what the hell.

I took door panel off, raised window by hand, and zip-tied it in place till dealer could get me in. everything was covered under warranty though, so I am not sure how much it would have cost.
