Lockable Storage?

Wonder why Ford didn’t give us some kind of lockable storage? Just a short story, I took my truck into Sears for the front end alignment. After I picked up the truck, I noticed I was missing the keyless entry remote. So I tracked down the salesman & we went back to the guy that done the alignment & sure enough he pulled it out of his pocket and said “It must have feel off the key chain!” Whatever, 1st of all why was the keys in his pocket? And 2nd did he really think I would not notice it missing? I’m just wondering what else he went through, or tried to steal while he had the truck in the back. Man, that burns me up! Anyway, I told the guy just what I thought of him. And also told the manager he lost some customers! Now I’m lookin’ for a way to lock up my stuff when the truck goes in for service “anywhere!” I thought I could trust a place like Sears. But now I believe I would have done just as good at the greasy shade tree garage around the corner! Not tryin’ to knock Sears, I’m sure it happens everywhere just my experience. There’s good & bad people everywhere. Any idears on mounting a safe inside our trucks!

You could probably take a small cash box that they sell in office depot, and stick it under the seat.

I usually do most of my own work, but if it needs to go into the shop, i eliminate the possibilties by taking my goodies out, or staying with the truck.

Expensive?......Yes, but it may be worth it depending on what you keep in the car.

The reason why is this. What good is it to lock stuff up in the glove box if you going to hand the service guys the keys? Also, if somebody broke into your truck, chances are they'll take the extra two seconds and break open the plastic pieces that hold your glove box shut. All it takes is a good tug on the glove box or a screwdriver.

If you looking to hide something that most people don't know about, pull up your middle seat in the front (assuming you don't have the console shifter). It'll come right out. There's a little bit of space you can put stuff into.

IMO...Lockable glove boxes = false sense of security.

Someone posted a little lock box that bolts to the bottom of your storage compartment, it was about $40 iirc and he got it on ebay. He held one of his guns. I was thinking about getting one also but I rarly carry.

yeah, that's something that i've not been happy with--the lack of locking glove box

...sure it's not too hard to break into, but neither are most vehicles for that matter...a locking console or glove box can at least can keep out kids/passengers as well as someone who isn't intent on breaking anything if i accidentally left a door unlocked

...as for service guys, some makes furnish a 'valet' key that operates doors and ignition, but won't open the trunk or glove box...my wife's old acura had one, easy solution

With the valet key...could the holder, open the door, then pop the truck or lay down the back seats?

I know in my mustang I had the truck popper was located behind the glovebox door but wouldn't make much differnce as the rear seats folded down to access the trunk.

never had a valet key before...just curious.

the trunk release was only on the owner's fob iirc (if there was a button, it was behind glove box door), and the rear seats didn't lay down, there was a locking pass-thru in the middle seat for skis/long items etc., but the valet key didn't work on that lock either

If you have a supercrew/Supercab you can put a du-ha organizer under the back seat and lock the seats closed using a setup like this link.

This is less expensive and holds more than the center console vault. I also use the center console regularly and would prefer to have unimpeded access.

msheue, Looks like we had the same idea at the same time.

Thanks for the idears, I'm going to look into the DU-HA. Even tho it's high priced, it will have more than enough room. I guess they got us by the ***** on this one. I'm sure I can come up with a cheper lock tho!

Looking at the du-ha lock setup it looks like you could drill a hole thru your rear seat handle and the bracket that holds it then snap just a padlock on!
