Another victim of wheelhop!

Punched it at a green light today... and BAM!

broke the plates on the rear axle where the original Springs sat on.

The flip kit uses a saddle that is under the axel. I punched it, the pinion climbed the ring gear... put too much stress on those plates...

I limped it home at about 5mph... The rear diff is pointing upward.. but still attached to the driveshaft...

I'm gonna try to fix it tommoro temporarily.. then maybe remove my lowering kit... we'll see..

AHHHHHHHHH

EDIT:

The plate where the brake line is screwed into is snapped on both sides... I'm so pissed.

You play, you pay! Remember that kids!

I'd suggest one of two things: Traction bars (to prevent the axle from wrapping) or welding the new perches right to the axle tube. Both have their pros and cons.... Traction bars would need to be mounted directly to the axles for them to work in your case. Mounting them to the springs won't stop the axle from rotating. Personally I would have a good axle shop weld the perches to the axle. Make sure they're at the proper angle so they place the axle at the proper pinion angle, and the problem should disappear.

That's why I'll never

alter the factory suspension. Ford builds 'em the way they do for a reason.

If you read the forum like I do all the time, a lot of the guys who mess with their suspensions have problems later on.

Best to leave it as it comes from the factory.

I was looking in a Four Wheeler magazine the other day and ran across a Torqu arm setup that looks like it would be very helful in eliminating wheel hop. Has anyone ever seen one for our trucks?

**Edit**
I found something similar to the one I saw, but the one I saw was on a leaf sprung truck:

The desription on this page says a anhard bar is necessar to center the rear axle, but that wouldnt be the case on our truck as the rear springs already do that.

But what's the fun in that???

If it broke, then it's time to think of a stronger setup. I actually have the same flip kit brackets on my '79 Ford that I just got done lowering (before/after photos are in my gallery). I was concerned with the strength of this setup, since I'm running a 460 in the truck, but I currently don't have enough traction to break anything. I think that if the brackets were welded to the axle tube it would significantly increase tthe strength of the setup, and I have also thought of adding some gussets between the brackets and the axle to increase the weld contact area on the tube and reduce the strain on the upper perch.

I ended up just limping it to a shop.

When I nailed te throttle, the tires were spinning through the intersection.. then I hit a small bump in the road. when the weight came back down on the rear... BAM! They broke.

They're gonna work on it tommoro.

If I had only gotten more serious about the traction bars before.. I drew up the plans, just havent had any place make em yet...

Nice job^^^^
I took mine to a driveline shop and had the pinion realigned with the trans. The shims that came with the Beltech kit (4") were not accurate. The fix was to raise the tail of the trans 3/4". With the addition of a pair of Lakewood flappers, I have no wheel hop, no wrap.
