"Nerf" bars...Chrome or Black??? Help me decide

I'v been wanting to put some nice step bars on my truck every since I took off the skinny factory ones that came on it.

I'm either going with the Ford brand 5" ovals in black or chrome plated or the Putco 5" Hybrid step bars (available in silver only...100% stainless steel). Definately the better step bars.

My truck is an '06 XLT SuperCab, black over silver two-tone. The only other chrome is the bumpers. The factory wheels are the 17" painted highlight aluminum variety...rather dull. Not polished.

Would you lean toward black or polished chrome step bars for this paticular truck???

I would get the chrome. Really looks good on a black truck.

The black will eventually rust on you. I had black step bars on my 2000 Lariat Scab and they had little spots of rust on them before I traded it in on my 06. If you can afford the stainless then that’s the best choice. Ford even has a Chromed stainless steel step bar.

I you can afford polished stainless get that instead of chrome. Whenever I get around to it I'm getting black brushguard and step bars. I can repaint my black stuff, can't repaint chrome.

I like my Westin Sport series tubes. Who cares if they rust in 6 years, by then I'll have the truck lifted and no nerf bars on it.

Chrome, or better yet, Chrome plated S.S. They will definitly hold up better than the black ones.

I've never seen black running boards on a truck I liked.

I've never seen chrome running boards on a truck I didn't like.

Chrome by a country mile.

FX4life...Nice Nerfs!!!

I've seen that picture of your truck on here before when I did a search about nerf bars. It was you and your truck that got me interested in the Putco brand bars in the first place.

How hard was the installatoin on the Putco's and where did you get them???

BTW...very nice truck you've got there. One of the best looking Fords I've seen to date!!!

Yea i made up a post in case anyone else might ever be interested. The installation wasnt bad at all, there where no instructions so you had to figure it all out which is what took the longest. They where also back ordered from autoanything so it took a while to get them (almost a month). if youd like i can get more pics of the mounts or w/e else you may be intersted in about them just let me know. Thanks for the compliment also!!!

I'd get these N-Fab nerf bars and have them painted silver to match your bumpers.
