Urban Legend? Disconnect Battery after intake install?

Installed a Airaid Jr, K&N filter and a catback exhaust. I have heard I should disconnect the battery for a while, then drive the truck somewhat hard so the computer can 're-learn' things with the add ons. Does this do anything, or is this some hocus pocus?

the computer in your truck does adapt to your driving style so it may adapt to other things such as mods, so why not give it a shot

That is not an urban legend. The computer has adaptive strategy which is learned as you drive. It will eventually adapt to the new equipment you have installed on it's own. By disconnecting the battery you will clear the adaptive strategy settings from the computer memory and force the process to start over from scratch.

I have read that some of the things that are adjusted by the adaptive strategy are timing and air/fuel ratios, etc., which will be affected by the change in your intake and exhaust systems.

I agree. All you have to do is disconnect the battery and then turn on the headlights for ten minutes. This will "reset" your computer.

Oh snap!! I didn't know that!! But by now, months later, I would think it's been learned in the system...

Uhm, actually just unplugging the battery for ~ 15 minutes will reset the computer. Headlights???? Nope.

It actually does not "change" the A/F ratio. It is already programmed with a constant for ~ 13:1. It monitors this ratio via the O2 sensors (among others) and constantly adjusts the injectors (pulse width) to compensate.

Just unplug it.

THe reason wandell mentioned the headlights after disconnecting the battery is to drain and current in the system, sort of speak..

Yes disconnecting the battery will work, but if you turn the headlights on as well it will drain everything clean.. It probably works without turning the headlights on as well, but its just somthing some of us do anyways..

Turning on the headlights is needless, there isn't anything to drain with the battery disconnected because your electrical system doesn't have the capacity to store energy beyond the battery.

Disconnecting the negative battery cable and touching it to the positive terminal will perform a hard KAM reset.
