Truck is in the shop...

...getting the 4.56 gears and painted fender flares installed.

Only problem is the temps outside are dipping quick, and I probably won't be able to get on it until March or April depending on when the ice clears from the roads. I picked up a Diablo tuner and will download my dyno tune as the stock tune, then I can adjust the gear ratio, tire sizes and even timing. By March I should have my home fuel tank filled with 92-93 octane and will be able to play around again. I found a track in Wasilla, about 330 miles south, so I'll try and get out there next year and get some track times.

Now I have to figure out what to do next I guess the interior needs some work.

I guess that they will have plenty if break-in time.

Roush, your truck is going to haul with the 4.56's. Now that you have the Super Duty I was just wondering how long that is going to stay basically stock. Since you seem to have a problem with anything staying in stock form.

Your gonna have to let me know when you go to the drag strip! I'd love to see that thing in action . heck I might even run mine for giggles n grines. but it's only a 45 min drive from my house not 4 and a half to 5 hours like you, so will you drive it or tow it?

Sandy, I own and operate a small business in the oilfields in Alaska. Nice part about this gig is that I get half the year off, but the downside is the other half I have to be at work, which is away from family, home and civilization.

PHS, the F250 will probably get a spray in bedliner, 350 gallon water tank and I might get a little risky and add a billet grille or brush guard. The mirrors will definately go though, the ones that came with the truck don't even have power.

My next toy is going to be a mustang GT that will probably sit on the floors at Whipple in Fresno before I even see it.

How much did you end up paying for the gears and installation?

Hey jsnsan, I'll definately post before I head down to the track. I need to check when they open back up in the spring and get the lowdown on how to get signed up. I'll definately drive it down, so it might be more like 3-4 hours depending on how well I can dodge the fuzz and moose. Good to see another Alaskan on the boards.

Umm, well, don't laugh, because I'm kicking myself for not having this done down in Las Vegas where it would of been $1200-$1400, but the price tag up here is a little steeper at $2400. They are tossing on the fender flares for $70, so I had them do that too while it was there. I got two quotes in town, both identical, so I just had to bite the bullet and get it done. I might see if they'll take a first born child, or one of their limbs to cut the cost down a little when I go to pick it up.

Definitely let me know about the 4.56's, I'm hoping for a thorough, in depth reaction and review if possible, thanks in advance. And sorry about what they did to you on price, I hope they wore a condom.

The mustang will be a while down the road. I've got to finish building the house first, and then it'll be a long process to convince the wife to get it.

Josiah, I'll make sure to give you an update on them. I did quite a bit of searching and everybody that posted about them was very happy with them and suggested the upgrade to everybody. I haven't gone into pay yet, but when I do I'll make sure to have it wrapped and lubed. I'm hoping they keep track of the hours and give me a break on the price, I plan to ask them for a break down of parts pricing and hours.

That's too much money. Gotta try for a break on the price.

Give the gears around 500 miles before you really romp on it... also, on the way home from the shop, the gears will get very hot... It wouldn't be a bad idea to stop a couple time on the way home to let them cool down a little bit.

After about 500-1000 miles, get the fluid changed in the rear diff.. It will have plenty of metal shavings in the fluid.. I've even know guys to attach a magnet to the rear diff after gear installs to catch the metal particles.

You running any traction bars? Might wanna look into the SuperLift traction bars... The pinion is gonna try to climb the ring gear alot faster now... especially with 400HP.

You're gonna love em'. They'll really get the off the line faster! (the gears)

I think the traction bars is a good idea. I might toss a set on before next summer. I also want to lower the rear a couple more inches, but I'm back and forth on that. The other possibility is either a carbon fiber driveshaft, or at least installing a safety loop.

I live fairly close to the dealership, 6-7 miles, and plan to take the truck straight home. I doubt it will be driven much between the time I pick it up and March-April. It should have an easy break in period. I'll talk to the dealership about changing the fluid out at 1000 miles. Thanks for the tips!
