Cool Headlights staying on while unlocking...

More of an FYI as opposed to a problem ????

I recently installed KC lights to my bull bar. I connected the hot lead for the switch (which activates the relay) to the fuse for the accessory delay (when you shut off truck and radio still works, windows still go down….until you open the door). After doing this, when I unlock the doors via the keyfob at night, the headlights stay on until I start the truck. At first I though "dag, now I have to pick another switched source", but the more I though about it, the more I liked the fact that the headlights stay on when unlocking the doors at night (via remote control) as opposed to just flashing on.

Can anyone think of any adverse affects this might have?

No, whenever my switch is in the auto position and I unlock the doors, my lights stay on until I start the truck too. This is a side effect of my remote start, I believe. Nothing so far, its only for an additional what, 30 seconds that they are on? No biggie IMO.

Thanks for the replies. I do not use the "auto on" feature for the headlights on my 06. That's why I noticed a difference after hooking the switch (for KC lights) to the delay fuse. Good to know it’s a “normal” function depending on how you have your headlight switch arranged.

Thanks all.

This is called "Perimeter lighting". Its independent of the position of the headlamp switch. Headlights, interior lights, and cargo light (and puddle lights on KR editions) are turned on when the unlock button is pressed on the key fob. Its a feature that can be activated or deactivated (see your manual for proceedure). Designed to illuminate your surroundings / assist you in finding your truck in a parking lot. Has a timer of 30 seconds and should not drain the battery.
