how often do you get your oil changed?
im just wondering cause i always get mine changed every 5k miles, and i noticed in another thread someone said that they change theres every 3k miles, so whats the deal.
Ford recommends every 5k for "normal" conditions and 3k for "extreme" conditions. I change mine every 3k, because I live in one of the hottest climates in the world, with frequent dust storms and lots of stop and go driving.
its probably about 60% change at 5k and 40% change at 3k
the pros and cons of changing at 3k you think you have "cleaner" oil in your truck more consitantly. when actually after about 500 miles you oil is almost as black as when you empty it at your interval.
It costs more to change that often, one good thing tho is getting a fresh filter on the truck, especially if you use cheaper filters.
I usually go between 4500 and 5000. Just b.c im lazy and dont want to have to crawl under my lowered truck to change the oil.
Its one of those things neither will hurt, its just how much you want to shell out. I just cant believe the people that run full synthetic that is good for like 7500-10000 miles and they change full synthetic at 3k

Starting with my first car when I was 16 I've always changed my oil every 6,000 miles. I had one car that ran 212,000 miles and another 186,000 miles. Never had to do any engine repair on either. One the electric windows broke and then the A/C went out or I'd have gotten 300k out of it. (An 89 Ford Probe if you can believe it) The 2nd, a Ford Contour, had the transmission crap out at 186,000. (I had a job I commuted 1,000 miles a week for a couple of years)
So all that being said i certainly don't see any reason to change my oil every 3k miles.

I bought the prepaid service from the dealer when I bought mine truck new. I paid an extra $50 dollars to it to have it changed every 3k. I paid a total of $650 for the complete service contract and it covers all services to 3yrs and 35K miles. after it expires I'll run full synthetic and change it every 5K. I do nothing but stop and go, stop and go. Traffic sucks here.
If you are in a dusty area, some recommend changing more often. I change mine betwwen 3500 and 3800. My dealer recommends 3000.

Well I guess I'm one of the idiots that uses Mobil 1 and changes it every 3k miles. I do it because I want to and because it gives me peace of mind that I'm taking good care of a $40,000 truck that I intend to keep a while. I did get a little first hand evidence with my truck also. At 18k miles I had to have the drivers side cam phaser changed. With the valve cover off the head and cam and springs looked perfectly new and shiny. In the next bay was another F150, same miles, in for the same repair. It had received 5k oil changes on Motorcraft 5w20 and it had a nasty brown film on all the same items. So who knows, I say do what makes you feel the best and don't worry about it.
