about how many hours do leds last? i can think of a bunch of places where i could put some leds. i would like to put some puddle lights.
|
04yellow.....i got some single collored cathodes sitting next to me right now from oznium.
how did you wire them up...or where too....i got 4 tubes...2 transformers, and 2 rocker switches im putting 2 tubes up front like you, and 2 in the rear and im tyring to do it today but dont know how to...like where to wire it up and run the wires.... thanks! |
I'd say in theory they have an indefinite life, however they are an electronic component subject to "letting the smoke out".
The most important thing is to have the biasing resistor set to allow the LED to draw the correct current. A good way to smoke an LED is to hook it up directly to a power source without the biasing resistor.

Here's a tutorial on some LED basics:
http://www.lsdiodes.com/shop/index.php?main_page=page_4 Anyway, yeah they should last a couple of years. In a perfect world, they'd outlast the truck. As for a photocell, do you mean like a flash from a camera? If so, no you couldn' t use one of those. Those are really meant for short duration bursts, not 100% duty cycle.

you can tap into the power of the cig lighter wire behind the dash to get the power, i dont have a switch on mine right now, its all controled by the wireless remote to turn the power on/off. the passenger side was the hardest place to put a tube, there is nothing really to hold it in place or to put it really. but i made it work lol
|
i cant get the dash open to get to the source..... i tried just simply pulling on the wood surround like everyone says...it wont budge...
so im thinking im going to use the one that runs to the back seats...i can get to that one easy. did you jsut cut into the wire? |
the wire strippers i use is the automatic ones, just stripped the wire back a lil and wrapped the wire around that and taped it really good,
the question earlier that was asked about leds life, they use less power then neon and last longer, im not sure by how much though |
i jsut opened up my dash....and the cig lighter wires are blue and something else....dont remember...haha
but the wires runing from my cathodes are black(ground wire) and red... so..i dont know anything about wiring....but can i still connect it? |
