Durability Of The F150 With Edge

Ok, guys whats the deal with the edge tuners and these trucks...my throttle lag suks had the pcm reprogramed still sucks. I plan on keeping my truck for a while and dont want a tuner to weaken the trucks life span? I hear about blown trannies and other problems from the edge. One part of me really wants the edge and the other is saying will this kill my truck? You might say wow $300 for a nice tuner but when your $4,000 engine fails or your trans where do you go when ur out of warranty? whats your guys take on this situation from a technical stand point? I was always taught the the engineers designed the pcm one way for a reason and it should be left that way. Whats everyones take on this isssue?

I have not heard of any problem involving the Edge and trannies. If a tuner was so rough on a truck, Troyer would not have so much success. What will destroy the vehicle is the abuse it receives after it is tuned. If you don't abuse it, a tuner will not hurt it.

Where have you heard these things??? Bunches of folks here have EDGE tuners, myself included. I ran mine for over 10,000 miles on my 04 and have been running it on my 06 since it turned over 1,000 miles. I'm not worried about it causing problems.

Sounds like you answered your own question.."The engineers designed it this way for a reason..." just leave it alone. It is performing as designed!!

I myself have an EDGE tuner and 'Just LUV it!!" My truck runs great. I have almost 6000 miles on an 06 F-150 with no problems. As previously posted if you take care of your vehicle, No problem. Or thrash it and sure things are going to break. I must ask though, I've been on this site and FTW and have not read any posts relating to Transmission failures relating to Edge or any other tuner... Please give Links or references to substantiate your post.

Talking

Considering I originally just wanted a tranny oil gauge...and for a $340 I could have an Edge--no brainer, so...for the last 3 weeks I have been putting it through the paces and I AM IMPRESSED!

I have '05 F150 Lariat 4x4 (fully loaded) and my MPG increased by 2+ and the get up and go is real. The top end and torque is where I wanted more and the Edge (so far) has provided it. I have been runing level 3 with 91 octane.

As with most aftermarket items...Ford warranty will always be a concern (hence the suggestion that the truck is returned to the factory stock setting and the programmer removed before taking to the dealer).

Also, most super chips are illegal in Kalifornia...as are most things.

You are probably thinking of the trannies in the superduty diesels being torn apart with the edge and other boxes being added. The diesels just make too much torque with a tuner for the tranny they have, or should I say used to have, they have come a long way from the standard E4OD they use to put with the diesels. But with the F150's I dont see any problems with the trannys, they really help the transmissions IMO, and the power difference isnt enough to destroy it. Just get the edge, put it on level two, and you will be more than just pleased with it, trust me.

... The Edge Evolution can display up to 4 of 19 vitals, including tranny temp. Since we tow a travel trailer in the Eastern Sierras...the temp on my tranny is very important.

How hot does your transmission get while towing?

I love the edge. No problems yet after 3000+ miles. I think the tranny works better with level 2 than 3 though and drivability is better. IMO.

Sorry...have not towed with it yet. However yesterday in So Cal it got was way over 80+ degrees and in cross town traffic the tranny got as high as I have seen it...164 degrees (but I was pretending to be a Porsche--you know, 5 PM, idiot drivers, etc). Compared to the past weeks (was in the 70s) it hovered around 149-155 degrees.

I have had my edge for 5000+ miles and have not had any problems with it. I think that it is the best thing i have done to my truck so far.

I love my edge. Got it 10K miles ago and regularly tow a 7K trailer on lvl 2. Made the truck drive much better.

Actually runs great, no problems, having fun when I drive!

I think the key operative words to your question were "i plan on keeping my truck for awhile". You'll find that most on this forum that post actively don't keep a truck past 50K. There are some exceptions, so I'd like to hear from those who have put 30K or more on a tuned truck. My 04 has 47K with minimal problems so far. I'd like to add an Edge but have been waiting until I can spring for intake and exhaust at the same time.

I have 35,000+ on my truck. I added the Edge at 29,800. I plan on keeping my truck till at least 100,000 or till it is 4 years old. If I am still happy with it, I may keep on driving it. I just do not see how the Edge will shorten it's life any. In fact it should be adding life to the transmission as it reduces friction and heat. That is, unless i dog it, which I don't. I would characterize my driving as a little aggressive and I do drive a little fast on the highway (80 or so), but this was true with the stock truck. The Edge just makes it more fun and i have the gauges to play with and tell me what all is going on. I detest that the stock gauges in the truck are simply "on/off" readings and not true gauges.
