20" Spare?

Ive got the factory 20" wheels on my 06 F-150. I noticed it came with an 18" spare. Does anyone know if a 20" will fit in the spare tire location?

I would think that it probably would since the overal tire height (or the circumferance of the tire/wheel is about the same). Take a measuring tape and find the height of the 20 inch wheel and compare that to the height of your 18 inch spare to make sure.

duh, good idea, thanks...I will let you guys know what I come up with.

The overall diameter is still the same between your 18 spare and 20 regular rims.

I don't think Ford makes a 20 inch spare. Sure, you could buy a 20 inch rim like the ones on your truck and try to mount it up in the spare spot, but the rim would get so torn up under there it's not worth it. Not to mention it wouldn't mount up there properly with the hanger.

It should still mount up there without a problem, there's just more rim and less tire. But, yes it would get more torn up from all the road grime, gravel, dirt, etc. The bolt patter and hub opening are still the same.

How about a 20" with a 33" tire. I checked...it would be pushing it for me...Id love to have a full rim as my spare.

I havent looked but would the hanger that goes though the center of the rim to hold the spare up there actually fit through the smaller center hole on the 20" wheels?

That's what I'm saying. I don't think that normal rims and the spare rims are made the same around the center area which allows the spare to mount up there solidly.

If you don't have it 100% solid in place it's going to rattle and make a ton of noise. I know this painfully first hand.

The first thing i would do is drop the spare and measure it up to the factory spare. If your window sticker said full size spare, then you should of gotten one. then i would take it back to the dealer and get what you paid for....Read your window sticker,,,,,

Recently I had to drive around on my full size spare while i was waiting for my replacement tires to arrive. I wore the edge off of one of the factory tires to the point that cords were visible. So instead of driving around without a spare, I put the factory wheel on the spare tire hanger and cranked it up. every thing fit just fine. no problems with the hanger fitting through the opening in the factory rim and it was very stable under there for a couple of days until I could get my new tires mounted and the spare put back.
