Power Lock Tailgate Mod -- Wiring Question

2005 King Ranch.

Using the DEI Heavy Duty actuator and have referenced Myst's instructions and the other posts here. I have everything installed and all the wires run. However, I'm not tapping into the passenger door lock/unlock harness correctly.

My harness has five wires running into/out of it:
green with yellow stripe
pink with yellow stripe
pink with green
solid black
solid black

Myst says that lock is pink/black. I don't even have that color wire into my harness. I'm sort of going trial and error, but was wondering if anyone could save me some time and tell me what connections I should be tapping into.

Thanks.

Right on the door lock switch. In the door panel itself. There is a harness/relay on the switch with wires going in and out. Is this not where I should be tapping in?

Oh, and no combination works. I can't get my actuator to move an inch no matter how I have the wires hooked up. I can get the wires to short, so there is a solid connection through my wires and through the actuator.

I'm going to cry. It took me about 30 - 45 minutes to thread my wires up under the dash and through the rubber boots into the door panel. I refused to cut any corners and used existing cable runs. Was very difficult, but I did it completely seemlessly. All for naught! #&$%@**^%!!

Looks like I'll be stopping by Walmart to get some more wire taps.

Thanks so much for the help and for the pictures. I wish there was some way to add this to Dave's/Myst's instructions located Here.

Ebay sells em by the ton. Tesor brand is good. 70 bucks from a local vendor or about 5-8 bucks apiece on ebay.

I originally tapped into the wrong ones as well, I was too far toward the rear of the sill, the ones you want are a little farther forward (at least on mine ). For that area I used the connectors that crimp over the original line so no cutting is involved.

I just ordered a DEI high power actuator from Amazon. Easier than eBay and much faster shipping. $15 and free shipping. This one comes with mounting bracket and such.

I added a sentence that more specifically points out the wiring channel location.

Sorry for the inconvenience. (TM)

P.S. I hope you didn't pull those wires you put in out, because if I were you at this point I would be adding turn indicators or puddle lamps to the mirrors!

I hope you were being facetious in your apology! Your instructions were great.

I left the wires there, just in case I ever needed them for anything. They were such a pain to get in there and I did it so nicely, that there's no way I'm taking them out! I have no idea what I'll ever need them for, though. I have a KR, so I've already got the deluxe mirrors with the worthless puddle lights.

I love my truck, but it still sort of amazes me how the US manufacturers just don't get it. You look at a Toyota or Honda car and there are all kinds of innovative uses of space, gadgets, etc. Ford, on the other hand, gives us puddle lights, but black plastic mirrors and handles, huge concealed voids in the dash and flow through console, etc. Things like a power tailgate lock would be pretty cool and how much would it have cost Ford? It already buys a zillion actuators and there are wiring harnesses already back to the tailgate. Maybe $3? There's just no innovation ... with the exception of the exterior design, perhaps -- both Dodge and Ford have done some pretty good work there.

It doesn't rain where you live?

I love the ground being lit up, before I step out. Not for 'puddles' per se, but whatever else may be there on the ground, like oil or gum, etc.

BTW, Thanks Myst. I did this tailgate mod the first week I owned this truck. Very cool DIY mod.

Wow, you must not work on Jap cars.
I sold parts for them for years, have a few around the yard. I worked on them a lot. They do very strange things indeed.

My favorite parts person (a lady parts store owner with 40 years in the trade) has a big sign in her store;
"When buying Honorable Japanese Part, Please to bring Old Part with you"
After a few years of selling Jap parts I really understood why she needed it.

The Japanese modeled their car companies on Dr. Deming’s business plan; in fact they put up statues of him. This plan guarantees profits and decent product. We can't use those plans due to Unions and regulations in this country.

But do to a rather peculiar interpretation of supply chain economics Japanese cars are a weird mess to work on or replace parts in. Much harder to work on, and much harder to get parts for.
By comparison working on a Ford or a Chevy is a snap.
