Completely OEM Looking LED taillights!

Hey Guys,

So I stumbled across these LED taillightson ebay just now.

Yes I realize they are LED taillights for a 97 - 02 EXPY but bear with me for a minute.

We all know there isn't a company who will do this for us on the new F150 so we have to do it ourselves.

Here is what I'm envisioning. Look closely at the 97-02 Expy LED pattern.

It's an 8 X 4 array WITH a chrome shroud underneath. For our LED taillights we need a 7 X 4 LED array with chrome shroud. All you would need to do is open our OEM taillight and cut one row of LEDs and shroud off the top of the 97-02 Expy LED taillight array, re-wire the top to fix the cut wires and there you go! Completely stock looking LED taillights for the 04-06 F150!

Let me know what you think.

Duke

Wouldnt it just be easier to buy these???

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...QQcmdZViewItem

If you absolutely wanted to keep your red lenses, It would still make more sense to alter a tail light that already fits your truck instead of cutting apart a different set.

Just my $0.02

Isnt there a way to just heat them up and swap out the lens cover????

Well you'd be swapping out the glass that covers the taillight. I guess you could put the OEM glass of a pair of OEM taillights in the place of the glass that comes on those taillights.

This way the chrome should would be behind our red tinted glass and not look so "Euro".

I just wonder how those LEDs peform at night.

Thanks for the links and rather funny joke! Thing is HIDPlanet is not going to sell those LED taillight. Also the link to the LED taillights you found is in fact the one with the rather larger tumor on the bottom of the lense.

Thanks,

Duke

Haha. It's an idea. I'm also going to look at possiblly replacing the clear lense on the LED aftermarket ones with a OEM one.

I'd really like to see someone post night time pics of their performance though.

I just don't understand why no one has come out with an aftermarket plug and play HID kit for our trucks.... that and an aftermarket LED tail system that is, again, plug and play.

I really think, assuming that the price is reasonable, that these products could succeed. *shrugs*

You're right, they'd be huge hits. The problem is getting them DOT approved, not making them. Making them is easy, DOT approved is another thing. Granted some have gotten DOT approval on the taillights and failed the design miserably.

Aren't his the DEPO lights? Seems like we've talked with him...

The DEPO ones are a bit too 'Euro' for my taste...

They arn't the depo ones though I think I remeber seeing these awhile ago. Not sure if I'm crazy about the reverse light. Odd it seems the lower part lights up at night...or maybe it's just the flast.

Some of his night pics would almost lead you to believe the lower part lights up as a "parking light" and then the top lights up for a "brake" light.
