what is your opinion on this tire setup

I have a 2006 screw 4x4

I do a lot of highway driving but also like to do some mudding every once in a while

I have the ford 20's and I was thinking about putting some nitto 33x12.50R20 muds on the truck with NO leveling kit

I dont want to put a leveling kit on the truck because I think it looks fine as is and I dont what a HUGE gap in the wheel wells

Has anyone ever seen a setup like this? do you think it will look good? how bad will this hurt my gas mileage/ highway driving?

thanks
john

keep in mind the nitto muds are a very very loud tire. and they wear really fast as well. I only have 13K on my nitto muds and they are almost done. im expected another 2-3K out of them..

No leveling kit will be pushing it...I know someone here had Factory 20" Wheels (Poweder Coated Black) with 33x13.50 and he ended up Leveling the front and lifted the rear 1.5". Not sure if it was his plan or not, but that what he did. Search Black OEM Factory 20's or something like that...he had a thread open a couple weeks or months ago.

I beleive the stock 20's are 6.5" Backspacing...which is pretty far in the wheel well. Im running 20's on a 33x12.50 Toyo with a 1.5" leveling kit and have NO PROBLEMS.

I only have a few thousand on mine and they're not loud at all in my opinion, in fact my exhaust drones louder. But especially compared to some other rather meaty muds (boggers are no comparison in noise level). I have heard of the nitto muds lasting over 20k but I'm not holding my breath, I'm sure you're being honest. Just remember, these are 2 different accounts from 2 different people. I am also on larger and wider tires, the wear patterns between us will be different (weight distrib./footprint). I hope I get more than 15k out of mine, but I'm going to go with another tire next time around. Probably the bogger (gotta find a 16" rim that fits), Irok or Claw MT. I will always go for the most aggressive out there, I might even go for the Pitbull line if I can get a small enough rim.

Bush, can you grab a shot of your tread depth at this point?

Should look sweet. You shouldn't need a leveling kit to clear 33's. Maybe someone who knows for sure can chime in.

You'll never get anything smaller than a 17 on your truck. A lot of aftermarket 17's won't even clear the rotors.

Hey, I have 33x13.50R20 Iroks on the factory rims. I had them on without a level kit or the AAL for about a week. They rubbed when turning sharp. I think they you might be ok with a 12.50 tire.. but i cant say for sure. They were rubbing on the mount where the body attaches to the frame. And mosly the lugs were rubbing. You definately dont need the AAL I just put it on because I tow and I wanted the back up higher. I would give it a shot and add a 2" autospring if they rub. You wont need the AAL and I dont think the wheel well gaps would look too big.

Here is a picture of my truck without any lift

And here is is with the Skyjacker and AAL

Sure thing.. Here is what they look like now.. It appears that they get eaten up when they are on the front of my truck.. The front wears faster than the rear. (I rotate my tires every 4-5K miles).

I have 325/60R18 MT Baja Claws which I think are 33x13 or 13.5 with 2.5 leveling kit. They are are on Procomp 6001 18x9.5 with 4.5 backspacing. They rub on the inside, I think I lost the last 1/4 rotation of the steering wheel. Can due with out it but sometimes I wish I had it. Hopefully wont be too much longer but I just read a horror story from Josiah about fabtech so it might be longer than Id like.
