What's new with the F150?

I used to be a regular around here but haven't posted for about a year. I jumped ship and got a Titan. Anyhow, I am always interested in what Ford has cooking for the next re-design of the F150.

I have heard rumors of a new engine and am hoping for a 5spd auto tranny.... I can't seem to find anything credible and am wondering what the word is around here. I will probably be ready for my next truck in about 1 - 2 years and am hoping to come back to Ford if they can put together a engine and tranny that are close to my Titan.

I'll race your Titan, even on 37's and would put money on a very close race until 3rd

The 5spd is supposed to be coming, along with a 6.1L and a smaller diesel (3.6L but don't quote me on that). The diesel is putting out some real torque. What made you go with the Titan, just curious.

WOW! a Titan....I'm scared. Those things look silly. The japanese should stick to building cars cause when it comes to trucks Fords rule.

the new Hurricane gas V8 is coming (6.2L) as well as a small diesel.

first up is the new 3.6 Lion diesel that is going into the large PAG vehicles (will appear in the Range/Land Rovers first)

This is temporary (2 or 3 years) until a brand spankin' new 4.4 diesel comes to the truck. This new 4.4 will be made of compacted graphite iron block that is superior to traditional iron blocks. The material alone adds 10% HP gains as it does not score like traditional iron does (so there is a tighter seal between the piston and the wall)

So anyone that says Ford isnt innovative is full of crap

Mainy the drivetrain.... the 5spd tranny is really nice. It was a tough call. The F150 is better in just about every other way. I had a 99 F150 that I was trading in and the Ford salesman I was dealing with was kind of a jerk. So, I went next door and test drove a Titan....

I probably look at my truck differently than most of the people on here. I drive about 30K miles a year for work and plan to have a truck for about 3 years. I'm not quite as 'religious' about it as it seems many people around here are. It's just a truck to me. I'm too busy to put a bunch of mods on it or mess with it much. I almost look at it as a long term rental.

I really enjoy driving it... a lot of other Titan owners have had a lot of problems. Rear end failures and brakes seem to be the two main things. My brakes were bad and they replaced all four of them with new calipers and rotors. Since then, they've been flawless and I have had no other problems to speak of.

I think if the F150 comes out with a beefier engine and a 5spd tranny I'll be back for my next truck. Also, when I boght the Titan it was a few thousand less for similar equipment. I got an LE which is similarly equipped to a Lariat. I paid 32K and got 1.9% financing for 5 years (actual price was 31K but I gave back 1k to get the financing). The Lariat was around 34K with no deal on financing.

Oh yeah, you guys who say the Titans are ugly.... I agree 100%. Actually, the front to me is pretty bad. I like the look from side and especially the back but that grill has got to go.

I don't want to turn this into another Titan vs. F150 thread... that arguement has been beat to death and everyone is entitled to thier opinion. Ford makes great trucks. Obviously, I think so because I'm considering buying another one someday. Thanks for the info about what's up and coming.

I just realized with your polite response, you made us all look like an a$$. But well put, I know several Titan owners who don't agree with all that "Chrome" on the front as well, but then again I don't agree with the chrome bumpers too much on our XLT's & Lariats.

I know what you mean about Ford Salesman being jerks, the Tracy Nissan Dealer is 1000x nice than any dealer I've ever been to. They were all gathering around my Lariat, looking at the mods I've done, etc...and at that time it was stock w/e-fans, intake, exhaust, etc but no lift. They really are nice people and not for just complimenting the competition, they really wanted to "help" me get into a nice Titan. They were desperately trying to give me irrefusable offers, it was killing me that I was only there for a test drive. Ford needs to take some pointers from them, when I was searching for my vehicle, I went to the local Ford dealer and a black lady approached me, I asked to test drive an F-150. She goes, ok but I need to know for sure that you're going to buy it...because well, we don't like to put a lot of miles on our vehicles. I told her forget it, and left. I did get to test drive one but I had to go to a dealership that took about 15 more minutes to get to, no biggie. I like to drive into that same local dealership and show off my truck to the ford techs, salesman, etc. A couple of them are in love with it and I tell them the story about that lady everytime, she still works there. When she comes around I'll ask her if she likes my new truck, and "remind" her what she told me. I will also tell her I paid without any real price negotiation to their (probably competing) ford business the city away. I hope she slits her wrists in the bathroom, was a real disrespectful thing to do at the time. Got up real early to go test drive and went home with my tail between my legs, I hope she thinks of her missed income. I think many of us on here would be great salesman for the f-150, absolutely 100% better than any salesman I've met on the F-150.

She did the right thing. It was a judgement call. My girlfriend can't get anyone to let her test drive anything and she is 20. I walk in and they call me sir and ask me what they can do for me. The Acura dealership has had two visits from me in the last couple of weeks helping her decide if she really wants a new TL or save up a little more and go for the RL.

I have to disagree a little, it's a nice/not bad engine today, but in the next couple of years they better have something to replace it. If they can come with the power mine has, stock I'd be happy. The gearing is pretty good, 4.10's would be max I'd care to go stock for the amount of highway mileage most do. It's nice to see upwards of 20mpg when you're so used to the city's absurd mileage.

car salesman stories??

I'm not so sure it's a brand specific thing... the Nissan dealer I ended up going with turned out to be a bunch of dirtbags.... The guy had the nerve to bring me a Kelly BB sheet that showed my trade at 4K less than the one I had in my pocket.... mysteriously, his sheet quickly disappeared.

So, here's my funny dealer story... a couple weeks after I got my truck my girlfriend in the market for a new ride... She decided she wanted a BMW X3 (I couldn't talk her out of it). So, we go to the dealer and start the process. Well, this was my first time in an 'upper class' dealership so I guess the ground rules are a bit different.... Shame on me, I didn't know.... I saw the cubicles and figured everything was up for negotiating. So, Mr. Salesman starts talking about payments, lease payments, blah, blah.... The salesman makes some analogy about how when you lease a car, all you are really paying for it is the difference between the sales price and the residual value (or what they will buy the thing back for at the end of the term). Now, I am a numbers guy so the first thing I do is ask him for an internet connection so I can get to an amortization table..... He claims to not even know what amortization was and I bit his head off. This guy was in his mid-50's and was apparently the most 'decorated' salesman.... had been there for like a hundered years.... whatever. I didn't believe that a salesman could be so ignorant and pretty much let him have it. Well, it turns out that he was just not very good at explaining what he meant and I was a bit on edge after my recent cubicle experience... Long story short.... the guy was being truthful and the deal on her car was pretty good.... I pretty much rattled the guys cage, which apparently isn't common at the Beamer dealership. I guess I'll know next time.... I apologized to the guy but reminded him that his industry is full of lying cheating bums.

I guess my whole point is that everytime I go into a dealership to buy a rig, it's war time. Wives and girlfriends have accused me of being to harsh.... Honestly, that is the only place in my life that I turn into an a-hole. Clients and other people I work with wouldn't even recognize me.... It's too bad but I always figure they are the ones that set the environment.... You just have to adapt to not lose your butt....
