Fix or Replace rear bumper??

Um little side story.. I was a little too intoxicated to drive home one night over the winter.. and one of my buddies drove my truck home for me.. backed into something under a snow pile.. and slightly creased the right side of the rear bumper and the dented the bottom, right corner of the truck bed (smaller then the size of a fist). I almost CRIED!!! Guess it's different when someone else does the damage instead of yourself. Anywho.. Long story short.. I didn't want to get it fixed till May when it was a little warmer, but not too hot. The time is now coming to do it.. and I have two choices.

One place wants to fix the factory bumper, push out the dent in the bed, and repaint the back quarter of the bed and bumper. (approx $850.00)

The other place wants to replace the factory bumper (b/c it won't be safe if someone hits it again so they say), repaint the bumper and the cornerpanel (approx. $1200.00)

What do you guys think?

which mine did.. so I figured the least I could do was pay for the rental car. I get as much of his tax return check that I need to do it.. but like I said.. just don't want ot rip him off.

That's way cheaper than any DUI that i've ever heard about! Was the designated driver the less intoxicated one? lol

I'd be fixing that bumper, especially if it's coming out of pocket (yours or friends).... Also, find the highest quality shop you can and see if they'd be willing to "spot refinish" the box side, as it would be a shame to have to paint the whole side of it for that. Some will argue that spot repairs don't last as long, but at the same time, especially with silvers and whites, just by coloring at the back and clearing the whole box side, the additional clearcoat up at the front of the box will make the color look darker and will be a dead giveaway that there was paint work.
