How To Crank Coilovers

Alright, I lost the directions but have the tools, I'm assuming you just loosen the allenhead screw and crank away. I did this but the threads are spinning with the collar, as if they're one. Aren't they supposed to be moving independently so the collar moves up or down the threads? Both sides are doing this so I'm sure it's my fault, I've sprayed the crap out of them with lubricant so not sure what else to do. The video of the tires mounted can be found in the Discount Tire Direct thread.

Thanks.

In order to crank your coilovers you have to take them off the truck and compress your coil. Do keep in mind that the "cap" of the shock is also screwed on, so if you keep on doing this you could blow the top of the shock off and youd be totally screwed. So you need to either take it off yourself and go rent some coil compressors and do it yourself, or take it to a shop and have them do it (which will cost you about $300).

Why on earth did they send this tool? I have the dirt logics, are you sure thats the method? It just doesn't look like it's the way it's done with these, there are threads as you'll see in my video. Anyways, let me know, I sure as hell won't take it to a shop no matter how hard it is, I have a body lift to think about. Thanks a lot for the quick reply, it's really needed. I need to figure this out before tomorrow morning or I'm kinda screwed again on a ride.

Trust me...I tried to crank my procomp coils for over an hour! Mine also came with the tools to crank them but i am sure you need to compress the coils. Maybe put some tie downs on the coils when the truck is on the ground and then jack the truck up off the ground and try again? I wouldnt recomend this at all. At least jack the truck up so the front wheels are off the ground and try that.

I had the truck off the ground and it wouldn't work. I wish there was a way to counteract the turning of the threads. Thanks a lot for the help, keep it coming.

And why is that? Seems smarter than over-cranking your coils....but to each their own i suppose.

Umm...when I cranked mine a few moths ago, they were on the truck and I didn't have to compress the coil. They are a PITA to crank either way, but I just pulled out the spanner wrench, put a cheater bar on the end of it and used some elbow grease and got the results I wanted.

I did this when I added the spacers...I only added a spacer on one side and then cranked the oppsite side coilover down to bring the front end up to even out the front end. I decided not to go with the spacers and had to crank the coilover back up to where it originally was. Never took them off the truck. We thought about it but didn't.

Did both the threads twist with the collar when you spun the spanner wrench? I can't see why they would work if so, but checking anyway. I sure need to figure out a way, my fenders are getting torn up (very difficult to drive this way).

Nope, just the collar twisted. Collar meaning what the spanner wrench turns, correct?

Yep, exactly. I tried to call Fabtech but they're closed. You know, you never really get used to getting screwed.

Josiah, I cranked my coil overs up and down and back up again and they never left the truck.Something is wrong with it if this doesnt work.

I just jacked the wheels off the ground, Sprayed a little silicone spray on the threads and cranked away. You definately should not have to compress the springs to crank the coils. I guarantee Fabtech will say the same

And as far as not getting a body lift goes, I have had a body lift on all 4 of my trucks and have never had a problem with any of them. But I did have problems from messed up drivetrain angles

Im trying to find in writing exactly why companies like 4WP and Performance Accessories doesn't recommend using a body lift in conjunction with a suspension lift.
