Installed – Magnaflow SI/SO, Volant CAI, Edge (having some issues)

Ok folks, I finally got my upgrades installed. All of my choices were largely influenced by the experiences of you forum guys/gals. Many thanks to all of you.

Initial impressions –

1. The Maggie was a blast to install. Very easy but bring a friend. We used only hand tools and ramps. The system sounds great. Low rumble at idle, mean growl when accelerating and real tough growl at WOT. No loss of low end power at all. For those of you who use your truck as a daily driver (like me,) be warned. There is some drone/resonance around 2000rpm and is very noticeable at highway cruising speeds. I’m strongly considering the Maggie resonator to quiet it down a bit.

2. Volant CAI was a little more difficult to install. Excellent design but instructions were a little vague. System is quiet and I noticed the truck responds to my throttle inputs much more quickly.

3. Edge Evolution is plug n play. I was very impressed by its design. I’ve fallen in love with the gauges (and I thought that was the least impressive feature when researching.) As for my recommendations, it will have to wait. Unfortunately, I’ve only been able to use lvl 3 and lvl 2 for short periods of time (more on this below.)

Here are my issues. I’m really hoping someone here can shed some light. I’m getting a real bad vibration during spirited acceleration. By “spirited” I’m not talking WOT. More like hitting the accelerator to pass someone. The vibration/resonance seems to be coming from the exhaust. The dash, floorboards, etc. start shaking. Not an enjoyable sensation.

Could that be related to how the exhaust was clamped? Also, if I try running lvl 2 or 3 the vibration is that much easier to duplicate. With the edge it’s so bad that I keep having to return to stock.

Any ideas? All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

P.S. - Just with the intake and cat-back exhaust I'm getting an extra 2mpg!! Thats after a 1/4 tank. Let's see if it sticks...

What kind of Magnaflow muffler did you get? I have a SISO 18" and I don't experience any cabin drone at all of any vibration problems like you seem to experience.

Kinda sounds like the exhaust to me. Double check the exhaust hangers and clamps and make sure everything is tight. Good luck

I'm leaning toward the same conclusion. I'm also debating swapping the clamps with these these http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=egnsearch.asp

Maybe that'll do it...

I am having the same exact issue, I thought it might be the intake system. I have the k&n 77series. I had the exhaust installed first, a flowmaster 50 series deltaflow, then the intake, then the edge. I really noticed the vibration after I installed the intake, it sounds like its comming from under the hood. I think Im going to put the stock intake back in cause it's annoying. but I'll look undeneath and check out the muffler first to make sure it's secure.

I have read several posts about aftermarket intakes and resonance. You may want to remove the intake (switch back to stock?) just to confirm or eliminate it as a source.

Do you have a SISO kit? I just had my stock muffler replaced with the 18" Magnaflow and like I said before, no noise or rattling in the cab what so ever. I'll bet that something is loose with the system or there is possibly a leak. If you rule out the intake making noise like stated above and you can't seem to find anything wrong with it yourself, I would take it to a muffler shop and have them check everything out and weld it together instead of the clamps.

IMO...it's the Volant. I did my upgrades one at a time. When I did the Volant, I noticed it as well. I talked to their tech support and he said to make sure the tube wasn't hitting the firewall where it bends to go into the T/B.

It wasn't, but I reinstalled it and lined the bottom of the box where it sits on the platform with a thin dense foam.

It much better now, still a little at WOT, but much better.

No experience with the volant or the EDGE, but I would highly suggest getting the clamps replaced with actual welds. This shouldn't be expensive, and will provide for a better installation in the long run anyway.

As for the drone, mine doesn't do that either, in fact, that's why I love it as much as I do. I only hear it when I want to...and when I do I have a stupid grin from ear to ear.

I thought about that having read so many folks having vibration issues. But my main problem is at 2000rpm. No vibration issues at WOT.
