HID's installed........but not in the headlights........
 

Ok, I am a big fan of my high beams, so I just couldn't get the headlight HID kit because of several reasons. The main one was the lack of high beam, 2nd was the glare enduced due to the fact that the H13's are a high and low beam and that is dependent on filament placement. Most H13's retros I have seen look like the high beam is on all the time, and the cutoff isn't so great. Well, the square fogs on these trucks have such a good low beam pattern and a sharp cutoff, AND the ability to turn them off if you don't need them, made me think, why not there? So I got a 5000K HID kit for the fogs and I am simply amazed. From head on, (another driver's point of view) the brightness of the fogs looks exactly the same as it did with my silverstars because of the great cutoff that these fogs have, but the light output down on the ground is absolutely incredible. They are easily 10 times brighter than my headlights alone. I put these in last night and it was raining, and we all know how crappy the output of those blue headlight bulbs are in the rain (or anytime for that matter) so the pics do a good justice of what the output looks like even when wet.

Oh forgot to put that info.....Ebay for $235 from intensehid, here is the auction. They come with a year warranty, and have the European stamp on the housing.....it is probably fake but oh well.... And here is the pic of the balast/ignitor mouted under the headlights out of the fenderwell.

Ah, you took my idea. Great job!! I completely agree with you - you can still have your legal headlights and high beams, but when you want some extra juice, just kick these on. Now I am contemplating if I should get the 5000K like you, or 3000K for the yellow-look, which would still let them be functional as true fog lights.

I'm out in the garage now installing my HID retrofit. Good idea with the fog lights! The reflectors on our 04-05 fog lights are outstanding for giving a perfect cutoff and an HID reflector type HID kit is a really good idea for them.

I'd just be carefull about your ballast location. If you drive in bad weather (rain and snow) that area will get soaked or covered in crap. You need a cover for that ballast or the weather could really tear it apart in a year.

It is higher than where it looks, right under the headlight, and the fender liner goes down and covers that area pretty well. It will probably still get wet some, but it is a metal weather proof box according to the manufacture, so hopefully it will be all good. :)

I bought mine form that seller also. Very easy to install. I just had to aim my headlights abit down because I blinded people if there was weight in the bed.

The hids I got were 6000k for a very white light with a hint of blue for a very OEM look.

How hot do the HID bulbs get? The reason I ask is my fog light housings melted with PIAA Plantinums in them....my dealership replaced them but I wouldn't want to try to do it again. Are the HIDs cooler than conventional hi output HI-Beams?

Sweet Jesus, what bulbs are in your headlights? That setup look fantastic, I love lighting but can't afford to have everything.
