All you audiophiles out there I need to be pointed in the Right Direction.

I am replacing my Stock audiophile sub system with a custom box running a 10" (Wishing 12") Sub

Questions:
What is the Difference betwwen a regular sub and a Dual voice coil one (besides the obivious) Why would I want one instead of the other?

I am looking at two subs
The Phoenix Gold RSd10d

DVC vs SVC
It makes minimal differences in how the speaker will perfrom, one is not better than the other. The only real difference is the wiring configurations available. For example you can wire a sub with dual 2 ohm coils to either 1 ohm in parallel or 4 ohm in series.
You could also do the same thing with 2 SVC subs.
Typically people go with dual 2 ohm coils, wire them in parellel to 1 ohm and call it a day with a Class D amp. They're cheap and efficient.

As for the difference in subs I can't comment much but I will say this
You can buy a $400 sub and make it sound like crap with a horrible install.
It also depends on what you're looking for SQ, SPL.. SQL. I'm assuming you interested in SQ. I liked PG in the past, it seems their products have gone down hill. I'd be more inclined to go with Infinity.
Also you will be able to get those subs much cheaper if you don't get them through crutchfield. Shop around a little.

I didnt plan to buy from Crutchfield,
I used them because of thier selection and product information. Probally was going to Ebay for prices.


I understand using the Dual voice coils to "Wire Down" The Ohms. Just didnt know if there was any other types of advantages.

Anyone on the Amp?

Should I use two amps, (One for the highs and Mids and One for the Sub)
Or will the 6 channel amp perform just as well?

 

I would deff. get a seperate amp just for the subs. Depending on how you're going to hook them up , you might even be able to get a mono block sub amp. In my Stang, I ran Oz Audio 5.25 with 1" dome tweeters in the front and Alpine Type R 6x8 in the rear powered by an Alpine MRV-F340. Then I had 2 Alpine type R 10" subs powered by a US AMPS US1000. That system was pretty sick. I used the Alpine amp and all the speakers in my 04'F150, but couldnt fit the subs, so gave them to my nephew.

So I guess, IMO, I would go with 2 amps. I would also go with the DVC Subs..you have more flexability with the install.
