Finally about to get the painting done!

I picked up a set of the lariat fender flares and will be painting them along with the mirrors and front spoiler/grille insert. The original paint didn't stick too well on the Roush Chin Spoiler, and the paint shop forgot to paint the grille insert, so I'll finally be able to finish up the outside look I've been going for. You can see some of the flaking in the picture below. Also, check out the cool mod zip tied to my front tow hook.

Can't wait to get it done. It seems like each time I post a picture of the truck here, people are telling me to get the painting done. I've been trying for a while, but focus went on the supercharger for a while. I'll be sure to post up pictures when I'm done.

There's one idea I have and I was hoping to get some input from you guys. Since I've done the Mark LT conversion, I've contemplated putting on the chrome mirror covers on the top part of the mirrors after the painting is done. I'm leaning towards doing it, but I'm worried it will look tacky. What do you think?

Don't do the chrome mirror covers (Ford calls them skull caps). I think they look like crap. I was going to go for the Chrome package with my new truck, but didn't want the skull caps, so I'm just going to replace the door handles and buckets with the Lincoln painted buckets and chrome handles (like you have on your truck) later on to get the look that I want.

I think the mono mirrors and flares will look just right. Nix the chrome cover idea.
So how come the paint was flaking off the valance? Bad prep? I want to get one but don't want it to peel off.
Awesome ride man keep it up.

I bet if you or someone photoshopped the mirrors and flares red that would give you an idea of what is about to come. You know some motivation

I think the fender flares are a great idea but I can't support your decision on the chrome mirrors. It's like having the chrome buckets for your handles (I'm going to get shot for that). Anyways, your truck looks great and how is the ride home going (have you even left yet)?

If I was sure about going with the chrome mirrors, I wouldn't of asked here, I would of just done it. I talked to my brother about it and he thought it was a good idea, but I'm starting to agree with you guys that it will look better monotone.

The paint is coming off the spoiler due to bad prep. The paint shop up in Denver said that the spoiler came from Roush right off the presses. They said it still had parts of the mounting tabs from the mold, and a greasy type chemical on it. They said they baked it 4 or 5 times and could not get all the grease off, but painted it anyhow to get me out the door since I had to drive back to Vegas the next day. It took about 2&1/2 months for it to start flaking off. We'll see how it goes this time around.

As for heading back to Alaska, that will be in mid May. I fly back to work the first week of April, so I'll get my fill of the white stuff for a few weeks, then I have a couple weeks in Vegas before we drive back for good. I'm trying to get as much done down here as possible since it is cheaper, and the folks here know what they are doing, unlike back home where they just don't get the experience and they charge an arm and a leg.

Thanks for the compliments... can't wait to see it done!

What are the roads and vehicles like in Alaska? I picture old cars and unmodded new cars. I can't imagine a supercharger in an ice-filled state being very plentiful, even around here it's rare.

There are quite a few modded vehicles around town, but they are normally limited to intakes and exhaust, and the fast trucks have tuners. I don't know of many that have superchargers. I know there is one SRT-10 cruising around town. Not a lot of real clean fixed up trucks though, it's just impossible to keep them that way up there.

As for the roads, they aren't the best for hot rodding. There are some good areas that you can get on it, but the cops aren't very forgiving up there. Unlike down here in Vegas, they do sweat the small stuff. The roads are slick for about 4 months straight, and can be nasty for a couple more than that. We get a lot of pot holes, and frost heaves from permafrost can launch you out of your seat if you aren't carefull.

As for the "mod" on the front tow hook, it is a plug. It is for plugging in the oil pan heater, tranny fluid heater and battery warmer when the temperature drops down too cold. Ever try to cold start a car at 60 below?

I was in the same boat as you when it came to putting the chrome mirror covers on my truck. I was not sure when I first got them about putting them on, they just sat in my garage for about 3 months. Once I added my Harley grill & LT handels I put them on...It really ties in very well with the grill and handels IMO, and is not tacky...I dont do tacky ...And im sure you know how I feel about the painted flares

05RoushMarkLT ,
Your truck looks really good. Does the Roush chin spoiler cover the entire bumper, or is it just the bottom half? I have a chrome bumper that I want to cover up and want to know if this will do the job.

So we get this whole entire piece or just the half where the tow hooks are??

It's JUSt the very bottom piece. Mine is sitting in the cardboard it arrived in last week. I'm trading my front and rear chrome bumpers with a member that has a silver truck, and then getting them sanded, prepped, and painted white to match my truck and of course throwing the Roush lip on at the same time.

If that isn't an option for you, Street Scenes makes a "cover" that is a one-piece, and will cover the chrome part. It's a bit cheaper, and personally I dont think it looks bad, it just didn't quite excite AS MUCH as the Roush lip.

Get whatever suits YOU best though!~
