Brakes and Tires

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all can give me some info on your experiences. I went to the dealer this weekend and they said my brakes and tires are showing some wear. (in there red, yellow, green system they marked them as yellow). The truck is an 05 Screw with 16k miles. Should they be showing wear already, is the dealer messin' with me? What have you experiences been?

Thanks,

Matt

I changed out my brake pads at 13,000 miles just to eliminate the ecess brake dust. My pads were still like new at that mileage. We all drive differently and I have heard of some having wear at your mileage as the factory pads and very soft and wear fast. The factory tires should be about half gone at that mileage assuming you have rotated them properly.

I changed my brakes last weekend with 26K on them and they were worn out bad and making a howling sound

Yes, did it myself, very easy to do. Took my time, took about 3 hours in my driveway.

Did my 30K maintenance this past weekend and my front pads need changing, they are not completely gone but I'd say they might have another 5k left.

I need to do some research and find out what pads I want to use.

What pad is everyone else using?

I am also looking into tires, mine had 6/32's left, I rotate every 5k and the wear is perfect. I could get another 10K out of them i think but I like to change my tires very early since we use this for family trips and vacation.

Thanks,
Johnie

front stock brake pads changed after only a few hundred miles due to brake dust - replaced with Porterfield carbon kevlar pads with no problems after 17k miles of use, about half the pad is left

I installed the Wagner Thermo Quiet. It is a semi-metallic pad similar to factory, just better quality and almost no dust. Installed at 13,000 miles, no noise, no vibe. I paid $40 for the front pads.
