I'm thinking about adding a backup camera to my truck. I'm looking at a flush mount infared camera. My questions is where have they been installed. I'm looking at the rear of my truck and can't figure out where to put one. Any help is apprecaited!!

 

I mounted mine in an electical box under the bumper next to the hitch....

 

Assuming you dont have the reverse sensors, there is a place already cut in th metal. The plastic to the sides of the trailer hitch.



You just have to drill a hole in the plastic. I got my camera power from the reverse lights.

I get a good view using a 120 degree camera.

I mounted my exactly opposite the keyhole for the spare tire. Gives it an even look. Lost a little bit of view due to the bumper, but very little.

 

your screens are HUGE. It is like the whole headrest.

 

Everybody told me 8" screens wouldnt fit, well they were wrong.

 

Do you have any pics of this GotBeer? I just cruised your gallery and didn't see any... I'd REALLY like to see this as I've been debating on adding one myself.

I would think mounting it there would blind the camera at night, especialy if you went with one with night vison capabilities (due to the tag lights)....does it?

I see yours there... and like that option...

I guess I was picturing his being mounted more towards the upper left of your license plate frame .... just up and left of the '6'. More of a mirror image off of the keyhole for the spare.

 

The cool thing about that location is that there is already a provison in the bumper, just have to cut the plastic. It would be a pain if you had to cut a hole in the steel bumper, there is also one on the opposite side. Im pretty sure these are for the OEM backup sensors.

 

I was nice having the camera their, because it was close to the center of the truck. But once the trailer hitch was in place you couldn't see jack!
So I moved it too the other side of the trailer hitch wiring connector.

 

smokes', what kind of camera is that and what kinda wide angle lense does it have. what type of viewing angle?
