I emailed ford/lincoln about the lack of power in the big 5.4 and got a computer generated email back.

Yeah and the 6.1 hemi is not in the trucks yet anyway...I just don't get it... We need more power!! Come on ford!!

I'm sure it will be. The Hurricane, GM upping power, Toyotas new 5.7 (with reports varying from 300 to 400 hp).

I would bet a lot of money that the 6.1 Hemi will be in a Ram within 2 yrs.

I also think the Hurricane will first appear at the next redesign.

Why not buy an F-250 witha V-10?
NOBODY wants a V-10 with all of its 362HP, 457lb-ft?

THIS IS YOUR ANSWER - SUPERDUTY WITH V-10
Gas is pretty cheap now overall, compared to what other countries pay and compared to how it was back in 1981, adjusted for inflation. We are pretty spoiled and lucky that we do get it rather cheap, considering. I was in Germany last year and gas there was 4 bucks a gallon plus in some places. It's even cheaper than bottled water and I can get that for free in my house. If you are saying until gas becomes cheaper contingent on the Hurricane release, I don't think a V10 is the answer as I'm sure the Hurricane will get better mileage than any V10 Ford offers. My V10 struggles to get 12-13 on the HWY. albeit, though, my Excursion does weigh a bit more. That's why Ford sells more diesels, better towing and better gas mileage.

You know what I don't want the hurrican engine..(everyone, gasps)..

I want a better performing 5.4 that is based on the design we have. Wither supercharged with low psi for durability, ala, roush. But the last thing I want is some 6.1 ltr which gets 10 mpg in my rig. I have a hard enough time with 13 when I baby it. If you want speed damn it get a fast car. Or a custom 2wd truck. But a bigger gas engine just makes me mad. Give us a Diesel with a lot of torque in a usable RPM level and call us happy. We really need to look at fuel economies. I now this isn't the board for it but someone has to start it somewhere. I am really happy with my Edge tuned 5.4, as with most people with Any tuner and their 5.4. The new engine will cost more so the truck will cost more. Why don't you put the 5k extra for the engine and new truck in a Whipple now and not have to wait for worse gas mileage.

Ill take the hurrcane engine if i can get the same mpg than what im getting now. I will ALWAYS welcome more power. But i dont want to see poor mileage. Its a big risk too, coming out with a new motor. If they are i hope they spend plenty of time in R&D. Thats the last thing ford needs is for them to come bring all this horsepower to the table and have engine problems the first 2-3 years they are out.

Theres no replacement for displacement

They don't need to get a new engine. They can up the horsepower of the 5.4L without sacrificing longevity. How about a 5.4L at 350 hp/390 tq with a 5 speed auto transmission and a 4.10 gear option in all the trucks (not just the heavy payload package.) Even with the current 5.4 a 5 speed would make a world of difference. The gear ratio of the F150 has to be lowered to 4.56 just to have a comparable 1st gear to the Titan! With these changes the F150 would be slapping around the dodge/chebbie/nissan garbage. Why do with 6.1 liters what you can easily do FROM THE FACTORY with the 5.4L. Ford's single biggest mistake was putting the 4 speed into this truck.

QUOTE]Ford's single biggest mistake was putting the 4 speed into this truck.[/QUOTE] I agree, my 02 ranger had the 5 speed auto and when you stepped on it it would rev through the gears sounding like a prostock drag car(more so after the chip). Of coarse this made it enevitable that you HAD to do that at EVERY red light and stop sign

Is that true? The economy/compact Ranger gets a 5 speed automatic, but an upscale/full size F150 gets stuck with a 4 speed??? What's up with that!!??!!

The Sporttrac has a five speed auto. I researched them before I bought my truck. Most of the reviews by actual owners were not thrilled with that tranny. We need a five speed that is sturdy, with 4.10 gears under the rear. With CAFE being what it is, don't hold your breath.
