2005 Startup Problems on 5.4L

Anyone had problems with startups on the 2005 5.4L? About 20% of the time at startup my truck dies. Cranks right up after the second attempt.

Mine has done it. Other threads on same subject. Some have had injecters replaced, ecm reflashed. Can't remember any other attempted fixes.

Just got mine back from the dealarship. They said it was a pretty common problem and reflashed the PCM. Apparently there was a TSB to fix the problem. We'll see.

I just started to notice this on my new 06 with 4000 miles. About 1 in 20 starts, it just cranks then dies.

Happens to me ALL the time. Happened today, in fact. It's been to the dealer and they say nothing is wrong (go figure ).

Mine will do the same thing, then it will act like it's flooded.

It happened to me only once when I was picking it up from the dealer after an oil change. Ironic. They told me that everything checked out, and it has not happened again for about 4K. You're right about acting like it was flooded.

Mine has 4100k on it and its done the same thing about 5 times. Had my PCM reflashed a few months ago and it hasn't happened since (fingers and toes crossed).
Has anybody noticed though that if you turn your truck off and then for some reason need to restart it a minute or two later the engine sounds really ruff when it cranks, mine does this now, but a least it starts on the first try.

Mine sounds rough when it cranks all the time since the reflash. It also seems to idle rough since the reflash.

I might be crazy, but my gas mileage seems to have dropped.......?

It probably is flooded. Mine did the same thing. I took it in and they repalced 4 leaky injectors. After the truck was shut off for about 45 minutes or so it would become flooded because the injectors would just leak fuel flooding the engine.

i've had probelms with starting as well.. it doesnt even crank.. it sounds like the alternator .. you turn the key and get that tick tick tick.. and a little bit of a crank then doesnt turn over... but most of the time it cranks right up!
17k and counting!
