Nice looking truck.

I love the longbeds - which in my opinion is an 8' bed. I stepped down from an 8' to a 5.5' and it sucks. I have to drop the tailgate just to haul plywood or sheetrock!! I used to load down my '01 longbed and my 5x10 utility trailer, now I just pay for the delivery charge and pass the cost on to the customer.

What I think is funny is when the import mid-size trucks call thier beds *longbed* and I see a guy that can't even lay down a handtruck (dolly) in the bed.

 

As much as I hate to admit it, a half ton truck today is basically an SUV. People who would have bought an F150 ten years ago are almost all in a Super Duty now. It is comparing apples and oranges. When ever I have to haul anything, I take my old F250. My 04 F150 Lariat is for clients and trips to the grocery store. If you only have one truck, the 6.5 bed is a decent compromise. Actually, the 5.5' F150 Screw is harder to back up than the 8' Scab F250 because the sight lines in the F150 are so bad. I can imagine that the 6.5 bed would be worse, but hey, if you don't know how to drive, don't get a truck.

I actually agree with you. It all depends on what suits the individuals needs. What suits my needs may not suit another person's needs, so to say a 5.5ft bed is useless to everyone simply because it does not suit a certain person is somewhat ignorant. I use my 5.5ft bed all the time for things I need to haul, and if you need another ft of space, use a bed extender. But for all intended driving purposes in tight spaces and whatnot, its perfect for ME.

On a side note, Budha05STX, another Scab 5.5ft bed guy, there arent many on here.

 

Looks nice, probably what I would have got if it was available when I got mine. I wanted a crew but I wanted a 6.5' box. I like to close the gate behind my bikes, my sportbike fits in mine with about .5" to spare, and my dirtbike has to be winched ALL the way down in the front and the gate is still very tight to close against the back tire. It really isn't THAT long. Like was said, it is only like 6" longer than my current truck.....not too big a deal.

 

I hear people on here say how there aren't many 5.5ft. Scabs around, but I must have seen at least 6 this week around the Tampa area. Although everyone around here drives a F150.

 

I havent seen six since I bought my truck in July, and Ive been everywhere all over from New Orleans, Georgia, The Carolinas, Virginia, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, Michigan, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennesse, Kentucky, to Indiana. Ive looked and over seen a handful. Maybe Im just not looking in the right places.

 

I enjoy my 5.5.. but the 06 looks great. Big effin truck!

 

Sometimes it's hard to tell the differencr between a 5.5 bed and a 6.5, but I drive a supercrew and I'd like to think I'm good at spotting my bed size.

 

I do agree its hard to tell at times, but the spacing between the front of the bed and the rear wheel is a tell tail sign. From what I understand, 6-8% of F150 were the 5.5ft Scab configuration.

 

It's good to be here!! I knew the small bed wouldn't be of any significant use to me, so I put the fiberglass lid on it.

Around here in San Antonio, I see more superduty's in the Scab version than I see the F150 in the Scab. 90% of F150's I see are either Screw or Regcab.

 

same here i usually see SCREW's or SCABS with the 6.5 bed.. i've only seen maybe 3 SCABs with the 8' bed.. and just as few with the 5.5' bed.. another thing i've noticed in my area is that either there XL works trucks or there fully loaded Fx4's or laraits...

LMAO...put the crack pipe down. The bigger bed just makes it MORE practical. My daily driver before my 06 f150 was an F350 crew cab long bed 4x4 and I drove that thing everywhere. Large vehicles are not any harder once you get used to them.

 

Nice looking truck man! I would have held out for one to pull my boat but got to good a deal on a 2005. Do they offer it with a heavy duty suspension so it is a least functional ?
