Rotors Won't Come Off...
 

I have been at it for a little while, there is grime all over the rotors and I've tried everything from brute force, to WD-40. The Parking Brake is off, the brake fluid cap is off, and it's in park. I have the calipers off finally, the bolts were a bit rusted on there but came off with vice grips (the bolts were a bit stripped too). The rotors are very slightly loose, I can jiggle them per se. Any help would be appreciated, I have to change my rotors and pads because my rear end is scratching and grinding, so I'm hoping this will fix it. It started happening after I got in a major 'stuck' last weekend, I pressure washed the hell out of it and they still won't stop grinding, and braking amplifies the grinding. The brake pads have small chips taken out of them, they are badly grooved and damaged, and the rotors are very grooved as well. There is the reasoning, if anyone has any ideas, a crowbar won't work and neither will a hammer/mallot. It feels like its locked on there.

Get a bigger hammer......seriously. :thumbsup:

Hit the rotor from the outside, at the outer edge, and spin it as you do.

It will come off.

That was something we went through and exhausted thoroughly. I'll try again in the morning, thanks for confirming my suspicion.

I'm not sure how it works w/ this new style parking brake, but on old drum brakes, you would have to use the brake tool and loosen them to get the drum off. The shoes would wear the drum and leave a "lip" on the drum which would then prevent it from coming off without adjusting the shoes.

If you're talking about the small "gear" looking spindle behind the disc brake, which controls the e-brake I believe, we had to loosen that to get it off, but the "bigger hammer" idea worked as well. Thanks guys, I just found out they gave me the wrong brake pads, they are a bit smaller and the back clip is much smaller than the previous ones. I am using Rebestas or whatever it's called brake pads, and duralast rotors. Thanks.

That grinding noise you refer to may be your rear end! You said you had it major stuck....if you get that rear end submerged, it could get watery crap in it through the vent. It says in the owners manual that the rear end fluid is a life time fill unless it is submerged and then it must be changed. You might wanna check this....Just a thought......

No worries, it wasn't the rear end, a neigbor pointed that possibility out too but thankfully the rotors were changed and it's very silent again. Feels good to be normal, only cost me about 300 bones (rear rotors and pads).

Why are you always out to ruin my parade :lol: I needed the parts quick, so I have duralast rotors now, and some ceramic pads. It's only the rear, I'll put money into the front when I lift. I'd order the porterfields right now for the front but money's tight, give me until tomorrow or Friday and I'll purchase them. Hope someone reminds me. I'm tired of the brakedust, the pads I have on the front are supposed to have no brake dust, so much for that.
