Floor shifter **** removal

Does anyone know for certain how to get the floor shift **** off the shifter rod? I'm swapping in a rubber floor mat for my factory carpet on my 06' and need to know how the **** comes off.
Any help would be great.

You're talking the transfer case lever, yes? I asked the same question 3-4 weeks ago and didn't get a response. Are you going to use the SFX mat or something else? I'm looking to put a floormat in too, at least in the winter.

Yes, I'm talking about the transfer case ****. I don't have a center console in my truck, I opted for the bench.
I had the dealer order the rubber/vinyl full floor mat that comes in the STX or XL style trucks, since it wasn't an option on my XLT (but it should be). I don't like carpet in my trucks, especially in Michigan where we sit on a salt mine, and aren't afraid to cover the roads with the stuff. Wet salty carpet inside is not my idea if taking care of my investment, not to mention muddy hunting boots, dog paws and fur......
