PIE Adaptor

Hi.. posted this over on the satellite radio section, someone recommended I post it here.

Does the PIE adapter work if your HU does not have the AUX button? I just got an 03, and the HU doesn't have the AUX button.

I've got a sirius unit (not sure of the model name, a cheap one from BJ's) that I didn't mind having displayed with wires all over the place in my beat-up Explorer, but want to hook it up neatly in my F150 if at all possible.

Thanks in advance.

I believe that the PIE adapter is made specifically for the 2004+ F150's. If I were you, I would just buy a new head unit that has Sirius radio controls. You will benefit in two ways. First, you will have a better head unit and second, you would be able to control the Sirius unit from the head unit. If you wanted to stay on the low side of cost, I bouoght a head unit from Crutchfield that was $89.00 that has an aux input built in. It comes with a wire that you plug into the back of the head unit and then can plug the other end in tothe headphone jack of any type of mp3 player of sat. radio. Hope this helps.

That is correct.

For the 03, you'll probably have to consider utilizing a FM modulator.

Thanks for the info.

I don't really mind the FM Modulator, it works okay in my area, I'm more concerned with the power adapter. Also, I'm not sure I want to replace the head unit yet, would like to keep it stock for a while at least.

Thanks again

If I'm not mistaken, I think that the PIE FRD-04 is for the 04+ F-150's, Mustangs, Focus, 500, etc. with the new style of radio. You may want to check around if the FRD-03 will work since I remember seeing that model worked for something other than new body style F-150's.
