stock muffler tone

Anyone noticed a change in tone in their stock mufflers? I've had mine almost a year now and lately it seems to be getting louder, almost has a bit of a drone to it. I would expect that after several years, but not after 1 year. Doesn't matter to me, I'm putting something else on soon anyway.

Ever since the temps have gone down I have a VERY noticeable drone between 2000 and 2200 going up long grades. Only have 3200 miles.

Out of all the different exhausts on different vehicles I have had, I have always experienced this. Stock or Not, the sound deadening material or baffles always wear over time increasing the volume. Believe it or not, most mufflers sound a little different once they are broken in.

Yep, same thing here. I have over 23K so I figure it's normal, I'm hoping to get the BOrla system in the next couple months anyway.

i have 2100 on my 06, and about a week ago i noticed i was louder, i figured i would "break in" after about 7-8k but the cold may be part of it also. duno!

. . . maybe after about 500,000 miles on the stock muffler you'll be able to tell the motor is running at idle.

I've noticed this as well. To think some of you guys are spending hundreds of dollars to get that performance sound and all you had to do was wait for the stock muffler to break in!

No doubt, temps seem to play some kind of role because that's when I've been noticing it is as it's gotten much colder.

Had the same thing happen to me just the other day. We were going through the mountains, I stopped on top of one of them for a nature break, and smelled a stange, almost oil like smell. New truck, less than 4350 miles, not what you want to smell.... Checked engine bay, wheel seals, break seals, transmission, all to no avail. It was the exhaust, and after that, it did have a noticably different tone. I, like others, would have thought the "break-in" would have been over by now.
