power mirror add-on wiring?

Hi, my next project is putting power mirrors on my STX. Got the mirrors (well, they are being shipped) got a stock switch, and a selection of other Ford mirror switches. Don't know which one I will use yet, but I do not have the mirror plug in harness.
Ford parts guys local say they can't get the harness or the socket itself.
I have the schematic, and know which wires to power, etc.
What I don't have is the plug in order. I can fabricate a plug in for the mirror itself, but I need to know where each wire goes.
Example, on the driver’s mirror 2004, there should be two yellow wires and a dark blue wire and a red wire. But which one is which connector?
If anyone has that info, please let me know.
Thanks
Chris

Chris,

find out as much as you can about the connector so that I can identify it (i.e. part no, connector type, etc). My plants in Juarez MX make those connectors. I can swipe a few and send em to ya.

Lemme know.

Thanks, JC. Nice offer but so far I can't find the blasted number. The local Ford shop says they don't sell any harness that goes in the door, thus I can't even find a part number. Has anyone who has changed their mirrors to a non standard mirror (like the folding) still got their old harness end? the clip that goes into the mirror itself on the 05? This is the XLT mirror, not the puddle, heated, folding, etc. mirror.
Thanks
Chris

Thats pretty much what they are saying. I can get a door harness for a chevy, dodge, caddy, Suzuki, Benz, etc. just not for a Ford. Wow. Glad I don't work parts anymore.

Anyway, I will have to locate a harness end just to look at. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to make my own harness, but it would be much better if I could tell wich of the pins in what color code, rather than have to experiment.

Harness

Correct, I checked with the guy that is in charge of the SCM package and yes, its a single long-*** harness. HOWEVER, since we make those, its possible to get the single connector.

Chris, if you can post a pic or email me one of the type of connector you need (flat, round, male, female, number of connectors, etc) I can look for it.
Its kind of hard to look for something when you deal with gizillions of little pieces of plastic.

Is it Tyco by any chance? The clip-on style similar to the harnesses on the cluster?

Asinatra, youd be surprised. An explorer uses about 20 harnesses in the whole truck that comprises the nervous system. These things are sooo complicated, its easy to see why ford recalled several million vehicles a while back. Sorry to say we had a part of that...

Unfortunately I dont. We get provide part of the lighting subelectrical system. We actually ship those to Ford and they get the rest of the assembly, I think JCI (johnson controls inc) makes those for Ford.

We make part of the main harness, the fuel tank, accy harness (dome lights, door locks, power windows, etc) and the engine harness, for the F series light duty, explorer, mountaineer and expedition/navigator... We're actually getting the specs from Ford for the 08 models already.

BTW, anyone want a set of tan leather covers?

;-)

Sadly, I don't have the connectors. They go into the basic power mirrors. They are rectangular, as the slot in the mirror is rectangular, thus they push in.

The manual calls them C521 for drivers side and C615 for passenger side.

Top of page three shows what I think is the picture of one.
Since the mirrors are not here yet I can not confirm.

Why not try the local junk yards? There have go to be some 04s or 05s that you can pull the door wiring out of.

Would if I could.
I'm in California.
The wrecking yards are divided into two groups. Pick a part or you pull it type yards. Those are filled with ten year old tired stuff. Very few cars under 6 years.

Or big yards that specialize in selling to body shops and other yards out of state.
These yards won't sell small parts, won't let you in the yard at all. These have prices that to the 'retail' customer their prices are usually as high or higher than the parts over the internet new.

Out here, cars are usually not sent to the wrecking yard unless totally smashed or old. There is no rust/corrosion, and also important, there is a HUGE pool of car rebuilders. A two-three year old car or truck, even totaled, will soon be back on the road. A large percentage of cars in California have salvage titles. They have been 'brought back from the dead'.

It's because of the nice climate, 95% of houses have double car garages, and literally millions of people that do bodywork as a sideline/hobby. So a busted Ford F-150, rather than go into a yard, gets restored and resold.

I’m going to have to make my own harness, and hopefully there won’t be any ambiguity about which end is number 1.

jc1999, that would be very nice of you.
At least let me know if there is any way that part can be aquired, short of a hugely expensive harness.
Thanks for the help and input
