K&N intake, Pics
Installed the K&N cold air intake last weekend. Paid $277 w/ tax from a local speed shop who had it in 2 days. Took about 1.5hrs. No problems, no CEL's as of yet. There is some noticable gains, not really a big deal(15 hp). The tuner gives much more noticable power. At WOT I find it quite noisy and may eventually try to wrap the tube like Dzervit did.

Looking forward to putting mine on. Probably won't be able to get to it until the end of the month. Sure sucks looking at it over there in the box!

I was wanting one but wondering why it takes so long to install? It looks pretty straight forward so what is so difficult that these always take so long to install?

For exhaust just get some straight pipe from the cats back and dump it. Doesnt sound randy at all. Also dirt cheap.

Yes this is what I did. No I didnt lose any bottom end what so ever. Our trucks have 4 cats on them. Thats how we can get away from it. Dont beleive me just pull off your old exhaust, doesnt take anything to do it, and drive around for a bit. Yes it will be loud inside the cab because of where it is exiting, but you can tell what it sounds like it. |

Where did they remount the MAF sensor on that intake. I see the vacuum line, but not the plug in for the MAF. |

The reason is that it's over 30 steps. After removal of the old intake you need to remove the throttle body, install an adapter, re-install throttle body, prepare and install the heatshield, install tubes, remove and re-install the mass air sensor, install intake tube w/ brackets, re-hook lines, and finally install filter charger. Plus, I added a zip tie to keep tension off of the wire for the throttle body. Of course after doing one,the second would take only 1/2 the time as I was being careful to follow directions and being xtra careful with the electrical connections(to not break any) Keep in mind, you only have to do it once :thumbsup: It's not really difficult just takes a little time |

In most states, as long as you have the cats and the exhaust exits past the cab, you don't need a muffler. If I was to put a muffler on though it would be a magnaflow. |
i thought from your pictures you installed a cat back magnaflow?

I'm curious about your impression of “noisy”. Have you ever had a K&N FIPK before? The reason I ask is because my FIPK is sitting in a box in the garage waiting to be installed. This is my last week of school so I should have time beginning next week to put it on. I had one in each of my last two Chevy trucks. I sure hope the noise is not too bad. BTW, did you run into any issues with removing the throttle body?

I gotta' say, the K&N fits/looks on our trucks a lot better than I thought.
