Anyone with a Diablo Predator????
Anyone with a Diablo Predator????
I fixing to purchase a chip for my truck but can't decide which one , I hear a lot about the Xcal chip on this forum but other forums that I visit don't ever mention it all they talk about is the Superchip or the Diablo. I was just curious if anyone has an Predator and if they like it or not? I found a site that has it for about 350 the same as the superchip. Also what's the going price for a Xcal. thanks. Ohh I did try doing a search but wasn't very successful.
The x-cal II is made by Superchips so its the same thing you are reading about elsewhere. The real trick is who tunes it, not who makes it. I've got the Superchips x-cal II in my truck and it was tuned by Troyer Performance. Do a search on Troyer or go read in the chips forum and you will learn all you could ever want to know about it. My truck absoloutely rocks with Mike's tune!
I've got the DP. I did have the superchips 1714. Both are fine. While the custom tunes are nice, you can custom tune the DP.
If all you want is to put in the tune and forget it, I recommend the Superchips.
If you want to fiddle with it a bit, the DP is nice.
If you want to spend the big bucks and get custom tunes, well, there are hundreds of posts on that.
If you do get the DP, expect to have to mess with the stock shift. The way it comes out of the box it doesn't change the shift away from stock. Most set the shift in the customize section before installing. That is easy and works fine.

thanks, does the Dp have custom tunes already built in it like the super chips are is all custume to what you set it as and also can u set it back to the factory tune if you need to bring your truck to dealership for anything???
From the factory, all 6 I have read about or used have a regular gas slight improve tune, a premium gas very strong tune and something else, usually a towing with regular tune.
Most of these pre loaded tunes improve the shift points and pressure.
The DP, while loading one of these tunes, you select customize then you firm up the shift slightly for the best all around setting. If you can navigate a forum, you can use any of the tuners.
All save your stock settings to reload.
They only do one truck at a time, to keep you from selling the tuning as a service with their unit.
All can put the stock tune back, then be used on another truck.
All have a certain amount of custom tuning allowed.
The DP has good custom tune cabability.
You can buy custom tunes for the DP, but I have no interest. You can do it yourself if you really want to tweak the tunes.
Not to disagree with the guys with the paid for custom tune, but with a little tweaking by the end user (you) any of the tuners is very flexible.
The paid for custom tunes are nice, but when you sell the tuner, they are not useful for the next guy, unless his truck is a twin to yours. They charge for custom tunes.
If you get one and have questions, there are lots of posts for fine tuning settings.
If you use a Superchips you probably would never bother to change any settings except to try the Premium vs. the Regular. Everyone does that.
I use the Premium tune because it runs so much better. And I get enough better mileage on premium tune that I can ignore the difference in cost of fuel.
Any tuner is good. Some are just better for fine tuning.
I enjoy my truck 100% more with the tuner. Lots of folks would agree.
Chris
P.S. I switched from the Superchips to the DP because you can download updates for it online, for free. I had to send my Superchips in to have it updated, cost shipping and roughly a month. Updating the DP takes an hour, costs zip.

I have one and really have only used it to bump shift points and the speed limiter.
One of these days I'll need to play with all the other goodies.
