Oil change & warranty

Could anyone tell me if I lose my warranty if I do the oil change anywhere else but ford. I called and they told me my warranty would be void.

Thanks for the help.

I've never heard of such a thing in my life. I don't have facts, but that seems mighty ridiculous. I can't see how they can force you to have service done anywhere but Ford.

Sounds to me like a "stealer" is trying to take you for some $$$$. There's no court in America that would side against you if you showed documentation of your maintenance (performed by you or someone else) in a warranty dispute. As long as you have documents to prove the work was done with appropriate fluids and parts you are covered. Keep receipts or if you have your work done somewhere that maintains maintenance records (ie Wally World) you should also be covered. You do not have to use Motorcraft filters or oil (although neither would be a bad choice) as long as what you do use meets Ford specs.

The first question is, what country are you in? If you are in the United States, do a search on this site for "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act"... I have done some extensive posting on the subject.

In short, the Federal Act states that where a manufacturer denies warranty coverage based on after-installed, nonmanufacturer parts, the manufacturer has the burden of establishing that the nonmanufacturer part was the cause of the defect. Futher, it states that the manufacture cannot base warranty coverage on the requirment that all maintanence and service be done by their service centers unless the manufacturer can show that the warrantied item is of such a unique nature that only their technicians are sufficiently skilled and trained to repair the item.

Suggestions:

1. Change your own oil.
2. Find another dealer.

Some dealers offer "special" warranties. For instance, my wife's Taurus has a lifetime engine/powertrain warranty as long as we have all service done where we purchased the vehicle. The dealer where I bought my 05 F-150 Supercab gives me tires for life as long as I do all of my service work there...

They're marketing gimmicks...

No, they can't void your warranty if you choose to get your services elsewhere. Just keep records on hand (receipts, etc) for the CYA factor further down the road if you ever do have an engine related failure.

mine also has the warranty thing for the "Free tires for life" deal. I have to get all services done there if I want to keep that deal.

the free tires for life thing is bogus.... think about it.. how long do most of us keep our vehicles.... probably no more than 100,000 miles..... you'll probably only ever need 2 sets of tires in 100,000 miles.... so your saving what $500 or something for a new set of tires.... getting ALL your work done at the dealership will cost you over $500 over the life of your truck.......

I'm with everybody else, your dealers just tryin to screw you out of more money. I had a 2002 Ranger with modded intake, dual exhaust, T-bar crank (think leveling kit), and 33's. I've seen posts on dealers threatening to void warranties for all the stuff I had but mine could care less. They even went so far as to fudge on some paperwork and cover a new trans under warranty when our 97 f150's trans went out at just a hair over 36K. I'd be mad as hell course I would take it as the dealer implying that i was to stupid to remember to put the plug back in. Go somewhere else.

I had a '94 Ranger that I never took to the dealer for any maint. About 3 months before the warranty was up, the head gaskette went. The dealer fixed it no questions asked.

You might want to go to a different dealer.
