Winter Tires for 18" Rims
Winter Tires for 18" Rims
This is rediculas, not to mention a safty issue. I cannot find any winter tires that will fit my truck, 275/65/18's. What is everyone doing in the winter? I want studable winter tires, not all seasons. I obviously live in the north, so i should not hear from ye southerners braging about how u don't know what snow is, just like i won't brag that i do not know what Hurricanes, tsunamies, and tornados are.
What I did was to get a set of 17" OE rims and put BFG AT/KO LT265/70R17 tires on. These are within 1/4" diameter of the 275/65R18 tires so speedometer is not really off and if worse comes to worse, for a short distance, I don't have to worry about using my spare.
I really didn't find any problems trudging through last year's storms on the stock tires...
Granted, I don't live in Minneapolis, but New Jersey gets a fair share of crappy weather, so it's not like I'm a snow virgin.

I think you might have a problem finding studable 18" tires. I used to live in Alaska, for a short time, and all the locals had two sets of tires. One studed and the other not. You might consider going down to a set of 17" tires and wheels for winter. Unless of course you get a set of 18" tires custom studded. I've seen it done before, doesn't look that hard. Good luck...
I did just fine with my 275/65/18 BFG Tires last winter here in Winnipeg. We did have a lot of snow too. They were great in 30+ cm of snow.
They were decent on ice too. IMO they are the perfect width for heavy winter driving. They cut nice through the snow without riding up on top of it.

probably putting some cooper S/T siped on my truck next week (275/65/18)- i'd love to keep the toyo m/ts on but they arent gonna cut it. i've had just as much trouble trying to find studded tires- no such luck--
absolutly rediculas how ford can release this vehicle, create an oddball size tire and not make sure that there are proper tires for people to buy. Its a safety concern in my opinion.

You think we have problems with our (F-150) trucks?! You should try finding decent snow tires for the '05-'06 Super Duty trucks. There's absolutely nothing out there with the load rating we need. We just added a new ('06) Super Duty to our fleet of ten 1986 - 2005 F-250 & 350 plow trucks. We're looking forward to a serious sideways winter with this new one. The boss (who will be driving it) is fit to be tied.
I will be using my stock goodyear at/s 18's for the snow. They did pretty good last winter.
You may check into these bridgestone blizzak's in a 265/60/18.

The only snow tire I could find is a 265/70/18 in a Toyo Open Country GS02. Haven't really had any poor roads to test them on but I am happy with them so far. When I ordered them there were only 104 in stock in the Vancouver BC warehouse so there are not too many around.
Closest I've seen to a good winter tire for our rim size and also is a 'slight' size upgrade is a non studded BFG 285x65x18 ALL TERRAIN KO. Local Ford dealer quoted 210.00 each. I live in PA so these will do but I've had studded snows in the past and nothin stops on ice but the studded ones. Good luck.
the bfg at ko's are a good tire all arround and are rated as good as any of the so called snow tires. they do great in snow. and I would say so so on ice. I would say if you get them siped they will do better. I am thinking of doing just that this year. they should be comparable to a studded tire after sipeing.
