I've bought aftermarket extended warranties before and had problems with both of them. Now my position is, if it isn't offered by the manufacturer, don't buy it. That is why I just bought the Ford ESP Premiumcare 7/75 for my FX4.
I'm in the market too for an extended warranty. Question to those who have them, do they come and inspect the vehicle first? I once had a VW that was in need of some serious work, bought the EW, then took it in and they were none to happy
But they didn't inspect the vehicle prior which on their part was a big mistake.

I had the ford extracare warranty. It covered everything except the stuff you listed(emissions and regular maintenance). I paid 1600 for it. Had about 5 problems w/ my truck and the warranty covered nothing(o2 sensors, COP, iac, tps) It didnt cover the stuff that most commonly malfunctions. This was on my 2001. So i paid 1600 for the warranty and ended up paying about 500 bucks for all the stuff that went wrong w/ the truck. These trucks are well built and yes there are sometimes "bad ones" but 9 out 10 are great. I had a 2001(the problem truck) and seemed like i could never get it to run perfect. It had 55K on it when i traded it on my 2004. Im hoping this one is better and so far it is. For what it's worth i think it's a waste of money. There are alot of people that swear by them though. The way i look at it. I say stick that 1500 bucks away for when, if, something does happen. It's very unlikely it will cost 1500 dollars. But on other hand it
can also give you that "piece of mind"
If you do get one get the premium care because it covers everything! Emissions, engine, transmission. Just not tires, brakes, etc stuff that wears w/ normal wear and tear.

100% agree with the above - Ford warranty or go without. I've had too many experiences with shops that wouldn't honor the 3rd party warranty on other vehicles.

The clean air act of 1990 should cover your o2 EGR and Cat....for 8yr or 80,000 miles.. DEALER ..so no an extended warranty does not need to cover this....

But they didn't inspect the vehicle prior which on their part was a big mistake. For the warranty taht this post is about....you drive to PEP boys or another location...they can tell you what is closest to you....they check out your vehicle..cost about $60...if it passes then warrantywarehouse will pay for the checkout...if it does not then you pay...SOUNDS fair to me.
Also these guys cover Consequential Damage....and ford does not.....so say that your serpentine belt breaks.at 70 mph....if anything else gets screwed up because of that ford will not cover it...because the serpentine belt is not covered...
They also cover stand alone ......so say you blow a head gasket,,,,they will fix that...
AlSO they do wear and tear......so say you have power windows and they take 8secs to roll down...but now they take 40sec....TECHNICALLY they still work so for will say well it is up to the dealer if they replace..them....
these guys will replace them...
1 OTHER BIG THING.,.....you can use anyone who takes credit cards and is in the phone book to do your repair work....DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A DEALER...so I have a mechanic my family has used for 20 yrs...we can take it to him for the work and they pay for the repairs UPFRONT....I do not have to pay and then wait for riembusement...
This looks like a good way to go if you ask me...but I am still trying to find someone who can prove to me otherwise.....
If you're considering an extended service plan, I'll echo the statement that you should consider a Ford plan. I haven't personally used any other warranty services outside of Ford, but I have dealt with several of them at work, the two most common are probably GE and Fidelity-something or another. Both of them suck IMO compared to Ford's ESP, just from the hoops you've gotta jump through to get things covered by the aftermarket jobbers. The aftermarket folks seem to tend more towards teardowns/inspection type deals in the case of a hard failure...which means more downtime for your truck, and ultimately they may not cover the failure in question. There's just less footwork and red tape usually required to get something covered under Ford's ESPs, which may mean more convenience to you and less down time for your truck in the case of a major failure.

I had an aftermarket warranty on my 88 Ford (not the company you mention)and it was like pulling teeth to get service from them. If you feel you need an extended warranty, I recommend going with the Ford ESP, at least then your dealing with a company endorsed by Ford. You may have more of a leg to stand on when dealing with warranty issues.
