I wonder why some people get the CEL, and others dont? What's with that?

I want the AF1, but will probably go K&N because I don't want the CEL..

I was wondering if the CEL hit after going WOT and the computer going to open loop. Maybe during normal cruise the computer can keep it from going lean, but when in open loop it leans out and throws the light.

Maybe Quintin could shed some light.

I have an 04 and just installed an AF1 on Monday. I have gone through more than a dozen drive cycles and no CEL. AF1 is now shipping in their instructions that they recommend you clear your computer's memory only once, immediately after installing the intake before starting up the truck. I did this and have run WOT in every drive cycle because I LOVE the way it sounds. I can't keep my foot out of it, and I haven't had any problems, but if I did, my XCal 2 coming from Troyer would take care of it. Go with the AF1 and Tuner from Troyer! This truck now kicks A**!!!! Go with the AF1, you won't be disappointed, IMHO

Since my thread got bumped up....a little update:

I'm about 1300 miles and no CEL. And I have not reset my computer AT ALL. My XCAL 2 still has not arrived after 20 days (as stated by Troyer to be max waiting time).

About how cool the AF1 sounds...am I the only one who doesn't hear squat? At idle, i definitely do not hear a thing....as for WOT, it's different...but not amazing/loud different as some people describe.

In closed loop, the PCM uses feedback from the o2 sensors to constantly adjust the air fuel ratio to 14.64:1 A/F. Open loop the PCM ignores the feedback from the o2 sensors and uses the signal coming from the MAF meter to determine how much fuel and timing to put into the engine; based on hand-coded values in lookup tables

I’ve had my AF1 installed since the beginning of April and haven’t thrown a CEL yet. My build date is 9-03; there doesn’t seem to be a common denominator why some have a CEL problem; most don’t. I have the original design tube; I don’t think they make them anymore; they have a new design now.

The AF1 is a good intake. It’s a little aggressive, but that’s a good thing IMO
