e-fans on 04 and newer 5.4's
 

I know every seller of e-fans advertises gas mileage savings of 1-3 mpg, but I wanted to get some feedback from actual drivers with trucks similar to mine.

Your posts have helped me get my rear and front end problems fixed and get my PCM reflashed (not a huge improvement, but noticable to the discerning driver).

I think they'd give a good performance increase but probably not that much mpg increase. I'd say all the mpg reading you have to take with a grain of salt especially if people do it around the time of year the weather is changing. I can very my mpg from 11.50 to 13.5mpg depending on if I run the A/C, how hard I drive the truck, percentage of hwy/cty, and the outside temperature.

I had e-fans on my old truck and they're really cool to have. I'm working on figuring out which ones I want to go with on my new truck though. Mike T puts together a really really nice kit that has a good bit of flexibility in the way you want it to run.

I had e-fans on my 02 V6 manual, and the were great. More power, faster revs, and increased milage. All in all, I would say I gained 1 -1.5 mpg with the fans. I'm in the process of saving for Mike T's kit for my 04.

I imagine I would get better gas mileage if I would stay off the gas but I cant do it. With all my mods: intake,fans,and chip I can still get 15 mph city driving and driving like a racer.

When i did the efans on mine, i gained about 2 real mpg on the highway. cant say that my city mpg increased much, but for the price i paid, its definately a mod worth doing. Ive found a vendor online who sell complete kits for less than $200 shipped, in consideration of paid advertisers, just email if youd like to know, i dont want to post it in here

I was getting about 16.5-17mpg average on every fillup with my tuner........I put efans on and was getting upper 17's every time, so I guess 1mpg is a good estimate. I am still getting over 16 this last tank even with the supercharger!!!!!

Sorry for being clueless...but are you talking replacing the fan with a radiator mounted electric fan?

Do these things run too hot then in the summer?

With the current gas prices I'm real interested in any mpg improvements. I'm getting about 15.5 around town and about 16-16.5 with mixed city and highway driving (haven't been on a longer road trip to check pure highway yet). Interestingly when I put in the Air intake my mpg jumped up about 1.5 mpg, but when I put in the catback I got no improvement (got noticably more torque and HP, but no mpg).

Yes I'm talking about replacing the belt driven fan with electric fans mounted to the radiator. Aside from the mpg gains I'm hoping to get, I also want the additional cooling capacity to improve my A/C and transmission cooling during our nasty hot summers down here in Texas. I hate having the A/C on and still having to sit in a hot truck (Ford's trucks apparently don't have the greatest A/Cs. In my wife's Honda Odyssey I have to turn the A/C down after 5-10 minutes because it gets too cold. I like that. :D

That will pay for it's self in no time.

I can't give you exact MPG because I did Efans, underdrive pullies and tuner all at the same time. With the Troyer Stage 2 kit I have gained between 3 and 3.4 MPG. This is after testing with a stock 5.4 with just Flowmaster exhaust. (See current Mods in Sig)

I have tested 1 month and 3 month averages. They all come out about the same between 15.8 and 16.4 compared to stock which was 12.3 and 13.2.

I am currently on a 4 month run and my current average is 16.2.

I do agree I don't drive the same with the mods though. I have a tendancy to want to go WOT more often. The milages above includes WOT episodes. :D

I am also considering the e-fan mod and pulleys. I just ordered my Troyer Xcal2, so I am looking forward to that. It is a little scary to see what some of your mileage was before mods. I am averaging 16-17 mpg a tank. I guess I am lucky most of my driving is all highway :coffee:

I have over 3000 miles on my E-fans now. I can say on the highway I do see an increase in gas mileage.... but around town ZERO increase.... I am happy with them though and it got rid of that stupid fan clutch that kept making noise at idle. I cant say if its a worth while mod though.

My mods are, e-fans, airaid, magnaflow.... waiting on my Xcal

Highway is a huge differance in MPG's. I drive local/highway but unfortunatley a lot of the higway is stop and go traffic here in Dallas during rush hour. At least in the mornings. I try to leave around 4:00 pm to miss the evening rush. Sometimes I make it, sometimes I don't.

If I just drive in the 65 to 70 MPH range without much traffic I can get around 22MPG, but that is because there are no hills in Dallas. I am very pleased with the mileage I am currently getting out of this tank.
