I think EAFT is speaking of the 4 screws that attach the cover/cowling onto the mirror, not the bolts that hold the mirror assy to the door.
Can you clarify this EAFT?

Thanks FreekyFX4 but I was trying to explain the large cowling forward of the mirror. Dalesford got it in his reply and it appears that we're hosed in trying to replace just this cowling. I'm thankful for the quick replies, but still too chicken to attempt to "pop out" the mirror. Please let me know if anyone was able to accomplish this successfully and if there were any tricks. Also, if anyone finds a source for cowlings, please let me (us) know.

Question

Another way out that I have thought about is those add-on chrome covers that are advertised. They are meant to go over the existing mirror body to dress them up a bit. However if the front body is missing.... might not work.

Yes, please someone tell us how to pop out a good glass and not break it.

If no one has done this (remove & replace driver's side mirror), would anyone have a suggestion on where to get instructions...internet/library? Was at our local Pep Boys last night and they have nothing to cover a 2004 F150.

I think you would have to buddy up with a Ford mechanic who would have access to the manual. Must be one of those reading this ???

Bringing this up again to say I solved my problem. [I had a broken cowl/cover on my exterior mirror.] I bought a used OEM mirror on e-bay for 20.99 plus postage. May be the best way out.

Me too...$31 + shipping. Still cheaper than $100. Best part is...it comes complete so we can test our mirror removal skills. Please let me know how you make out.

EaftTruck and DaleFord,

You can go onto muth signal mirrors .com you can print a pdf file which has directions from pulling door panel off to adding signal mirrors. It does show how to remove old mirror glass and reinstall. Hope this helps.

Ronco, Nice website, but there are no 2004+ mirror removal instructions. Likely will be eventually or a call to their techs may provide info required.
Daleford, Hope you found success as I did. I just pulled the old mirror off with my fingers, replaced the leading cowling, and snapped the mirror back on. Got to love ebay!

Eaf The mirror I bought on E-bay arrived in 2 pieces! The glass had separated from the main mirror. I contacted seller who gave me a complete refund. Then I proceeded to remove cowling from his broker mirror and replaced my missing cowling. A free repair!!!
