Who here has the Extang RT Tonno?

I'm starting to dig this cover.. Thinking the hard tonneau's might be too much $$...

Anyone have it? Like it? Complaints? How does it work? Catalogs don't show very much..Also catalog says it has a locking rail which allows for locking it with the tailgate..? Is it secure?

EDIT: Oh.. wait.. secures with VELCRO? Yuck..

I got the extang rt back in April. Looks great, very low profile and no wear out yet whatsoever. Looks as good as the day I installed it and only lips about 3/4 inch onto the bedrails ( I got arz beige bed rail and tail gate caps so I did not want to cover these and the rt only comes in black ) Rolls up out of the way in seconds in a parking lot for those trips to Home Depot. I think these truck beds are high enough and the non low profile covers just don't look as good. - Just my opinion here... I'll definately buy another one on my next truck.

As far as locking, yes, you need to unlock tailgate to get under it. Good enough for your basic Walmart/HomeDepot trips, velcro is heavyduty, looks way better than snaps, but it is a softcover so if locking your cargo is an issue, then don't get a soft cover....

Would I be able to fit a bed extender in there with this cover?

KDDS, do you have any pictures of this cover on your truck, trying to decide between the extang and the access cover, thanks

i love mine. the only thing you have to worry about is keeping it clean. what im thinking is happening to yours FX4ME2 is its just not being properly taken care of. if you dont wash it and let it sit it will definately look gross. I apply a vinyl protectant such as 303 to it, and it looks brand new every time i wash the truck. you can go at least a month without having to do this and it still looks great. overall i absolutely love it, and i have no complaints with it at all. plus, it looks friggin awesome.

I cant speak for the cover but as a firefighter/paramedic, I have come across some bad A$s velcro. I wouldnt write it off just yet...

i've had absolutely no problems with my velcro. its some pretty hefty stuff, plus, it looks better than snaps. i've had mine on since may 05 and i have never had any problems with the velcro at all. i highly reccommend this one.

Mine has been on since May '04 and no problems whatsoever. All I do is wash it when I wash the truck. I don't use any protectant of any sort. Don't need to unless you need the shiny look.

No velcro issues then for you guys? Are there any cross bars like the standard button-style soft covers?

there are three cross members, they are straight bars that do not bow. it latches in the back, and there's a tensioner up front. during the winter months you can loosen it up and not have to fight with it when the vinyl shrinks in the cold, which youll have to do with a snap type. in the summer you can tighten it when it expands in the sun so it doesnt flap. again, NO problems whatsoever with the velcro, when it really comes down to it, there are only 3 options for the sides (snaps, velcro, and the crazy j hook vinyl strips that come loose) IMO velcro is the only way to go, if looks and functionality are important.

So are the cross members built into the canvas? Or are they seperate pieces that come out after rolling the canvas back (similiar to the snap type)?

I just haven't seen an Extang in person. Before I order, i want to make sure I'll be happy..

The cross members are held in place with velco, they roll-up with the cover. I have had mine for only about 2 weeks and all I can say is "wow"! It is the sh#t. I have had just about every type of bed cover from $1000 roll-ups to your general snap-ons, IMO this thing beats them both for what I use it for, and I am really picky. I wasnt too hot on the velcro either but I thought I would give it a try after reading reviews on this site, and I am glad I did. Is it as secure as a roll-up or hard cover, no. Is it heads above a snap-on, yes. Its priced right in the middle and knowing what I know now, I wouldnt buy another cover of any type.
