Headlight Swap Tips?
Headlight Swap Tips?
Seem to recall a thread about some tips on removing headlights, but can't find it. Just got my OEM HD headlights and seemed to remember there was some trick to getting the original ones off easily, any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Nice link but, it's specific to the late model body style... I believe he's referring to the new body style (ie: 04 + (non-Heritage)).

Its fairly simple...unbolt the 1 bolt on top. Remove the plastic screw thing on top on the inner/top part of the headlight...fold the rubberish/clothy weather guard thing and two more bolts will be exposed, remove those. There is one retainer clip on the fender side on each that just pop out...pull forward (or towards you if youre standing in front of the lights).
Thats pretty much it...

i am fairly sure that the alignment it in the headlight housing itself. You dont align the entire headlight like in the older model. So... you might have to realign them. But, mine did not need it.

Mine needed minor adjustment since I had a leveling kit installed. Found out it was super simple...in the back top area, you'll see that little screw thingy...just turn it and it will move the beam up or down. I just did it against a wall and adjusted it as needed. When moving the screw, it takes a couple turns to even notice a difference (at least for these aftermarket headlights I got).
Your headlights should not require re-aiming after a bulb swap - generally speaking. If they appear to be way off, you've probably messed up on the re-installation of the housing(s). Check that first. The only other thing that can cause a need to re-aim is a new bulb with the filament in a slightly different position. Some inexpensive aftermarket bulbs don't fare very well here.
As for the re-aiming, there's a very good section right in your Owner's Manual on exactly how to do it.
