How many times does it take to rebuild the rear differential on my 04 FX4 It is in for the 3rd time. I only have 42K and I took delivery 9/03. I have a build date of 6/03
Has anyone else had this problem?

I would request they put in a whole new housing twc. I went through this last year with my '04 Lariat. They replaced the housing about this time last year for the vibration and it didnt fix it. I am friends with the zone service rep and he said Ford was re-tooling the Visteon plant where the axle's are made and would be totally re-tooled about last Oct 1. Ford eventually bought my truck back and I got an '05 and NO axle trouble at all. I work at a dealer and we pretty much never see 05's with any kind of axle problems now. A new housing may fix your problem if they will do it since you are out of warranty.

3rd time was the charm for me. The new and improved "repair kit" was changed twice after it was ordered and I think they changed suppliers. the also sent the mechanic back to school and he was retrained. He fixed mine before he forgot what he learned or got sloppy.
