I got just over 23mpg on a road trip this weekend...

My wife and another couple went on our annual road trip to Dublin Texas this weekend to visit the Dr Pepper museum (http://www.dublindrpepper.com/) and pick up some of that heavenly Dr Pepper that is still made with Imperial Pure Cane Sugar and I was real surprised to find out when we returned I went 562 miles on 24 gallons of 87 octane. Most of the trip was done in the Texas hill country with cruise control set some where between 55-65mph. I am quite pleased as I am seeing 17-18 city and 21-23 highway, much better than I had expected going into this purchase.

Best I've done was 22.9 across Ohio and Indiana. Maybe I should install cruise control??

Did you recalibrate the speedometer after the tire change?

if you did not recalibrate the speedometer after the tire change then those MPG and MPH are off

I have 35's and never had the speedo recalibrated, it reads dead on everytime i pass one of those signs that displays how fast you are going. They must be a little of from the factory. calculations that I have done come out when actual speed is 60 mph the speedo should read 53.3mph.

Yes, which means he is actually getting better fuel economy than what he states. Bigger tires...going faster than speedo says, going further than odo says. Granted, it's marginal going from 235 to 265, but still.

Maybe I can give my wife the excuse of better gas mileage to purchase my new '06.

When I upgraded tires from 255/65/17 to 265/70/17 I used an online tire calculator and it told me my speedo and miles would be off by 5%. So when I figure my MPG's I correct the mileage to get a more accurate calculation.

Use or borrow a pocket GPS if you really want to check your speedo. They are very accurate.
Or use the mile markers along 99% of US highways. Use at least ten to average out errors.
