2006 FX4 Luxury Package
2006 FX4 Luxury Package
Hello all - Does anyone have any idea what is going to come in the FX4 Luxury Package that is due to be a "later this model year" option? I just ordered a 2006 FX4, and I was really wishing that package was available now - or at least a good description of it. I've searched and searched and I haven't found anything describing what it will include.
I keep thinking about it since I am ordering a truck, because I ordered it with every option I wanted. So, it kind of bums me out to think that I may be missing out on something that could be cool or add extra value to the truck. On the flip side, we are down to one vehicle, and I really couldn't wait until mid-year to order a truck. I would have also liked to have had the option to order the "fuel efficient V8" ... but that's another late model year option.
Anyway, there are a few "luxury" things the Lariat has that I wish the FX4 had, such as the climate controls, and the tirp computer. I was happy when I first read about the '04 FX4 "Model" (instead of the FX4 being a "package" like my '02 Larait had) that could be had with leather interior, I was quite pleased. I really like the look of the FX4 interior (the one gripe I have about the Lariat is the wood interior look).
Also - in terms of the ordering process - how far into the production process can options be changed or added? I don't think I will want to make a change, but I am also hoping the guy ordered all of the options I originally requested.
...
Would any of you have ordered it with 3.73 gears? I just kept the standard 3.55 gears. What other options would you have gotten on an FX4 if you had ordered it? Here is a brief overview of the options I ordered with:
Those were the things I really wanted. Other than that, I kept the fixed rear window standard (I like the fixed windows better). I also didn't opt for heated seats (it's a tad bit absurd in AZ, and I didn't wish I had them in my '02). The only option I wondered if I should have gotten would have been the 3.73 gears. Besides that, I am getting more and more excited each day - 2 months can't come soon enough (I hope it doesn't take much longer than that). Sorry for the long post

I agree - It was one of those things, I really didn't have a choice. We can't really wait around for 4-6 months to order a truck - especially for a package I know nothing about.
I was just curious to find out if anyone had any info on it - I don't think I'd even go to the hassle of changing my order if I could add it right now. It's a done deal in my mind.
Anyway, sorry for making it a backwards question type of post. I just didn't see any point in asking before I ordered considering they are options that won't be available until later this year.

My KR has 3.73 LS. I specifically looked for this option along with the higher payload package and off road tires and skid plates. It's a pretty beefy truck and the 3.73 tows my trailer better than the 3.55 but it uses a little more gas. I wanted the F-150 size with the utility of a 250 and the off road readiness of the FX-4.
3.73's here to..
If I had to guess, I would say the luxury package is just going to be a Lariat edition truck, with shocks and skid plates on it, and they'll just call it an FX4. You can actually order a Lariat with the FX4 package in it right now.

I had to drive 50 miles to get a truck without 3:73's.
I wanted the 3:55 open wheel rear, as all I do is highway miles, and I never tow or carry anything.
Every King Ranch and Lariat in stock, on every lot in my city, had 3:73 posi rear. I guess it's because I live in the city. I had to drive to a rural dealership to get the 3:55's.
If I drove around town, and used the truck for work or towing I would have wanted the 3:73's.
Your situation may be different.

I bought a Lariat for the options. I have always had climate control and cant live without it. I also LOVE the wood. I have 3.73 limited slip and wouldnt wnat anything higher cause I too knew I would have larger tires and would be pulling a trailer. My truck came with the power sliding rear window which I at first really didnt want. I like the look of the fixed solid window... but I must say I use the power rear window alot and love it now.
good luck with your new truck.
good luck with your new truck.
Wow, thanks for all of the replies. I am sorry I haven't posted a follow-up to this any sooner, as I have been in and out all weekend.
Regarding the 3.55 or 3.73 gears:
I definitely don't plan on doing much towing at all - I think once a year is even more than I'll be doing. As far as wheel and tire sizes go, I don't plan on putting big tires on my truck... in fact, I will probably just keep the 20's for the time I have it. That is what I did with my 2002 Lariat FX4 - I liked the FX4 17" wheels enough to keep them on, and I ended up driving on stock style tires the entire time I had it.
Yeah, it wasn't super beefy looking, but I thought the wheels complimented the truck well. Also, if I had done anything, it would have been some 20's with some decent looking tires.
Regarding the climate control:
I had this in my 2002 - but I really never ended up using it like it was meant to be used. I always ultimately adjusted it to a temp, and set the fan speed I liked. I never really ever left it on true "Automatic" as it didn't seem to re-adjust itself after you manually adjust the fan speed. Anyway, I did really like the controls on it though, and that is one thing I'll probably miss on the 2006 FX4... but it won't be a terrible loss.
klassic, you mentioned you thought the 3.55's made the truck a "dog" - in what sense? For towing, or in general? I am just curious.
mlawdawg, thanks! I am excited! I walked away with a good amount of equity from my 2002, so I'll be nailing down a bunch right away in terms of how much I will owe.
Thank you everyone for your input! I really appreciate it!

I think unless you do 70+ percent highway driving I would definitely get the 3.73. these trucks are heavy and the 3.55 can be a bit of a dog pushing this heavy truck off the line the 3.73 actually didn't seem enough for me but I am happier now that I am modded enough for good off the line takeoff. I am still considering going to the 4.10 someday when I can get the money together. by the way I do believe if you change your mind on options you can have it changed as long as the truck hasn't gone into production yet. I do believe my deler said something like that when I ordered mine. congrats

The Luxuryt package will combine the FX4 trim... (FX4 instrument cluster, carbon fiber dash, FX4 grill, painted bumpers) with Liriat Luxury items... (Auto CLimate, on board computer thingy... and that kind of stuff).
The only thing that makes the lariat more off raod oriented is the fact that it comes standard with some of the off road items that are optional on Lariat and other models. Like skid plate and LS rear end.
anyhow... you basicly missed out on auto climate control and a onboard trip computer...
