ATTN: Eclipse AVN 5435 and other like headunits!

Does anyone know how to get local TV channels to come in on it? What do I need to do? How much is it going to cost me? I have a friend with it in his truck but he doesn't know what they did or how much it cost because he bought the truck like that. Can anyone help?

Yes, they had to ground the parking brake though.

The Kenwood unit (I have one) has a parking brake wire. If you hook it up you won't be able to play DVD unless the parking brake is ON. Meaning it won't play if your driving..... Sooooo, up to you, mine isn't hooked up.... but legally I think it's suppose to.

I have heard it's impossible to disable this on the Eclipse units. Something about it being built -in to the units ROM... Meaning you WILL NOT be able to play DVD's while driving...It's not a mere wire like on the Kenwood units....

Every unit I know of can be wired so it will run while the truck is moving...most of them are very simple wiring mods.

As for the original question Thumper...you will need a TV tuner and antenna to be able to pick up and play TV broadcasts. I am not sure how much Eclipse units run or if you would have to have an Eclipse unit to work with your HU, but a typical Pioneer unit runs $200ish on ebay with the antennas. The only problem I have seen with the ones I have actually seen installed is the reception is pretty crappy and with the truck moving its only that much worse. The new thing to do is mobile Direct TV...the kit is still priced pretty high and the antenna is big (thats the reason I havent gotten it yet), but give it a few years and the price with come down and the antenna will shrink (just like with XM). The good thing about it is if you have Direct TV at home all you have to do is pay the $5 or so a month it costs for an extra reciever. Hell thats cheaper than XM and on my system at home I get Sirius anyway.

Reception on a TV tuner while in a moving vehicle is very poor...not worth the money IMO. BUT as you may or may not know, open air television broadcasts are going to be nullified in 2-4 years based on the laws that were passed a few years ago. This means, all free television broadcasts will be history and your tv tuner will be worthless..just food for thought.
Only cable and satellite broadcasts will be available.

I had one on my pioneer before it got stolen. Even though the Quality is poor I still watched it on occasion. But, for the most part it was useless. I agree that the Trackvision A5 is awesome. But it is wayy expensive and the Antenna is a monster.

I thought it was going to still be broadcast in open air, but only in HD?
