Got my 4.10 gears... almost

Well, Got the call from the guy who is going to install my 4.10 gears for me.. said he could do it on Friday afternoon (yesterday) and it would have it done by saturday afternoon. He works untill 3:30 daily. He does rear end work out of his garage as a side job.

He calls and I meet him to follow him to his house, which is almost an hour away.

I get there and were talking and bla bla he says "Here is your gear set" and show me the box... Wrong size.

Lost somewhere in translation was my rear end size... he ordered 8.8" instead of 9.75"

So he got on the phone and re-ordered them... Said he can try to get it done next weekend.

Just a 2x4

Its a set of ford gears, 4.10 ratio, 9-3/4" ring= $340
Install = $180
Total= = $520

I gained alot more confidence once I actually seen his shop. He has axels and axel housings and ring gears, pinion gears, lockers..... Everything dealing with rear ends in his shop.
Was referred to him by my father because he works for my father. He used to be a NASCAR rear-end mechanic.
He works on rear-ends for people all over the world he said..

Hopefully I can give some good feed back by next sunday!

sounds like you found the right guy to do it!

If I end up getting 35" tires i might go to 4.10's on my 4x4... so keep me posted.

From everything I have gathered, most people would recommend 4.56 gears for 35" tires.

I guess I would have to agree with them. With the added roling weight and diameter of bigger tires, 4.56's sound better to me.

Im actually going to go to a smalled tire next spring... maybe a 28-29" tire so my ratio will go up then too. Im riding on 265/60/18 right now..Thats a 30.5" tire

Id like to get 295/45 tires, but they're pretty expensive..
255/55 is what I think I'll get.

295/45/18 = 28.45"
255/55/18 = 29.04"

I am not sure you got the right guy if he ordered you 8.8 instead of 9.75. sounds like sloppy work to me. I could have told you it was a 9.75 rear. well any how let us know how those gears work for you when you finnaly get them installed.

Actually what happened was he ordered 9.75", but 8.8" got sent.

He showed me the paperwork where he wrote down exactly what I told him.

He just never looked at the box to make sure it was the right size untill I got there.
