Taking the Dash apart
Taking the Dash apart
I know there are detailed instructions on this site here somewhere, but my searches left me dry. I want to find the detailed instructions on how to take the dash apart in an 04' F-150.
I'm expecting the FRD04-AUX PIE component inthe next month or two, and I want to put in a 12 volt plug and purchase a Belkin iPOD auto cable....charges the iPOD with line out available. I want to run the other end of this cable up through my center console so that I can have the iPOD in the console on long trips or just while parked.
Thanks

Pull the bottom right corner of the Dash Panel. If you have never done this before, it is very hard to get it off for the first time. You will hear 1 clip snap out of place.
Pull the lower left corner of the panel. Then 2nd clip will come out of place.
Slowly pull the panel from the sides, starting with the bottom and working your way up. You will feel a total of 3 clips on each side pop out.
Here is where the clips are! A little extra force may be needed in this spots. Remember to pull straight out..
Remove the wire that goes to the "passanger airbag light"
I tried to take it off but It kept cutting into my fingers so I went too a guy that installs alarms`n and I ask him about it and he said you DONT start at the bottom you start at the top first .The bottom is the weak point ,the curve at the top is the strong point .I had him install a clock for me ,I think the $30 that he charged me was was a good price to know and also install

Got to agree with JP - I've had mine off 3 times and have noticed the top part appears to be the weak part....1st time off though I thought I was gonna break something as the bottom corner didn't want to "pop" - just as I was about start looking for a screw that I must have missed - the clip finally popped out.
By the way nice pics!!! Very helpful for those who haven't removed the center stack panel yet
Am I the only tool to break one of those darn fuzzy clips when taking that piece off?
Does anyone know were I can get another one or two at.
(yeah, I have some sort of gorrila strength, I break off bolts and strip things all the time, maybe a torque gauge is in my near future)

I got mine off from the bottom first. It works just fine. I make sure I have a towel next to it so I can rest the piece on it and not scratch the rest of the dask.
Would not be possible to get it off from the top first

Using the method pictured works great everytime. Ive removed mine about a dozen times, still has a snug fit and comes off easily. You do have to use a little force carefully, and it may not feel right, but it will give.
I think I might have taken mine off one too many times, I think its this piece thats squeaking. The clips must have a little play in them or something. HIDPlanet, do you have any squeaks? Since we do have the same unit.
